Singletrack Mind - 2010 NSW Enduro Series
Singletrack obsessives rejoice! The team from Chocolate Foot are proud to announce the
launch of the premier endurance race series for New South Wales: The Singletrack Mind -
2010 NSW Enduro Series.
From April 2010 mountain bikers are set to test themselves and their team mates in a series of
five events ranging in length from 6 hours to the series finale, a 10 hour challenge! Also at the
conclusion of the series to celebrate all the hard work and relive the great times of almost 40
hours of mud, sweat and gears, the village of Appin is ready to party! Dine, drink and dance,
complete with live entertainment!
While Chocolate Foot is a new business, its principals bring a vast knowledge of mountain
biking and event management to ensure the polished and professional running of the series.
Fiona Dick has been behind the successful running of events such as the Highland Fling and
the Mountains to Beach stage race. She is also well known as a racer, MTB skills educator
and has written for the major mountain bike magazines.
Joe Ward is Australia's most prolific cycling TV show producer, having covered the past
seven Australian Mountain Bike Championships, the recent World Mountain Bike
Championships in Canberra as well as being part of the SBS TV crew at the Tour de France.
With extensive multimedia coverage of each event, the series is set to raise the profile of
MTB endurance racing and give the general public an insight into the challenge and
exhilaration of mountain biking.
Both Fiona and Joe have been wearing the knobs off tyres for a combined period of over 25
years. In that time they've seen what makes for a great event and now they are set to make
great events a reality.
Each venue in the series has been selected for its sweet flowing singletrack and ability to host
everything that makes for a great event. The series kicks off on 18 April in western NSW's
singletrack oasis, Lidsdale State Forest near Lithgow. Well worth the drive, the deceptively
challenging Lidsdale track will serve up 8 hours of singletrack joy for those seeking the
enduro fix!
The schedule for the 2010 Singletrack Mind Series is as follows:
18 April – Lidsdale State Forest, Lithgow
16 May – Coondoo Road, Nowra
13 June – Yellomundee Regional Park, Yarramundi
29 August – Stromlo Forest Park, Canberra
25 September – WMBC track, Appin
Chocolate Foot are looking forward to announcing more exciting developments with the
Singletrack Mind Series soon – keep an eye on www.chocolatefoot.com.au/singletrack-mind-series

Round 1 clashes with WSMTB XC Round 2.

Would of been there but the club race is first.

Flynny's picture

Yeah not many weekends left so clashes are bound to happen. WS were part of the negotiations and oked the date

V and I will be racing this series. It has been a long time coming and a lot of hard work I would imagine.
Lets get a good nobmob crowd going and support the local clubs that have got behind this series.
We will only be able to make it to the middle 3 events but still very excited!!!
It is nice to look at nobmob and see some positive news about MTB !!!!

Oh yeah to all you SSers note that round 2 in Nowra is also SS special cat champships.

Damien's picture

I will get to the other rounds if possible.

hopefull's picture

very very good

GAZZA's picture

where's the male and female masters category? i'm getting fed up with this, it's a pain in the ass!

kilaton's picture

good to see something has been organised , as two previous comments noted does this mean there will be no nsw state series and with the masters racing I guess you just have to go solo and do a few laps . I am in the same boat these young whippersnappers just dont care about there elders !!
even though I am not really an endurance person I will still turn up and do a few laps at as many as I can get . Just hope everyone gets out and supports there local club and the series or this may go the same way as the state series .

kilaton's picture

is this taking the place of the nsw cross country series ? if so will there be a nsw cross country championships , an update would be appreciated from the powers to be .

Damien's picture

Agree.

But it should still be a good race series.

I might ditch Wsmtb XC rd 2 so I can do the whole series.

LadyToast's picture

I think there should be a oldies category as well.

Still, it's been ages since I raced at Linsdale, looks good.

I'll add these as calendar items now.

EDIT: Rides posted in calendar. I'm not exactly sure when the tickets go on sale, nor the start times of each round so I guessed those.

Flynny's picture

There are masters cats for teams not sure we need to have a thousand age categories for solo as these type of races are geared more toward team participation and we don't want to end up like xco with more podium positions then riders in some categories.
Latest stats I've seen says endurance athletes peak at around 40-45yo anyway so maybe the young fellas trying to hold down a new job and raise a young family should be complaining about having to race against us (well you) fast old buggars:)

No this is not instead of state xc. Not sure what craig has come up with there but I'm assuming a State Championships in XCO at least.

kilaton's picture

would it be possible to run a four hour race in conjunction with this series for the not so young and fit

Flynny's picture

Can't really see the point in that.
Teams are where the less fit should be looking.

Enduros are all about the team atmosphere having more and more solo categories only distracts from that in my opinion

Lach's picture

The Rocky Trail folks appear to be doing the 4hr / 8hr optional thing with the MTB GP series this year, except for the one the day after the Sydney 12 hr, which will be 4hr only.

Damien's picture

There where 118 solo only riders (male, female & SS) competing at the last 4hr at Yellowmundee.

I would of thought those sort of numbers where pretty good and hopefully considered a bit more than a distraction.

There are plenty of team categories a few of them for masters I see but its looking very thin on the ground for solo categories it would be good to see a masters solo age category.

Its not a deal breaker for me but it does reduce the overall appeal of the series a little.

GAZZA's picture

i'll probably do a few of them for training for the 24 solo worlds but if there was a masters cat then i'd be chomping at the bit to do them all!

Damien's picture

Is to do them all for fun and race training for the solo worlds.

If there was a solo master’s category I would definitely do them all as planned but as there isn’t one at this stage if something better comes along it might get my entry instead of this series.

It's been a big week! Last week we announced some new sponsors, SRAM, Brave Soldier, Avid, RockShox, Truvativ and Lezyne. We're just back from a trip to Lidsdale, the venue for the first round, where we shot some footage of the local club members and checked out the race track which we're confident you'll love! And today I'm pleased to announce that entries are OPEN!

Head to www.chocolatefoot.com.au/singletrack-mind-series... to enter.

Cheers
