Secret Mountain Bikers' Business - a Call for Volunteers
We need a large number of volunteers for a secret and important task that will lift our chances of success in getting Council to remove this ridiculous ban.
I can't tell you what it is on here (I'd have to kill you - messy), but it will not be dangerous nor illegal. It DOES require you to (a) be discreet and (b) keep your commitments so that you don't leave the other volunteers in the lurch.
It's best if you live near the Dam, but assistance from further afield is very welcome. It will require an hour or two of your time and the task will occur over a couple of weekends in March.
I'll be vetting applications so that I am sure that you are not a ring-in or likely to leak what we're doing to Council (yeah yeah, I'm being paranoid, I know ).
Please post here or PM me if you are able to assist.
This tape will self-destruct in five seconds....

Sort of, kind of wish I hadn't logged in to say ... I walked the Manning St track yesterday and Southern Cross Way today. Manning St closure = ridiculous. I could ride that on my Townie, chatting on the phone and still probably not hit anything or anyone. There's more risk on the Manly beach bike track any day, considering the high angst the tourists cause there.
SX Way: apart from a giant but unseen beast in the bush nearly giving me a heart attack, the only 'problem' I saw was on the timber track where overhanging but soft vegetation cuts visibility on the downhill. A hedge-trimming working bee for 60m or so would sort that out. Please don't take my councill-ish comments as gospel; as you know I'm an independent voice among many. Just my thoughts on a couple of short walks for the cause. I have emailed colleagues and comrades pix of Manning St and can do same for SX Way if they want them. Any cyclists I may have seen today (ahem) just said 'thanks' as I stepped aside.
Oh, and I sprained my ankle on a sandy rockface, so if it still hurts tomorrow I'm suing council.
Emails are still trickling in. One from Ireland yesterday
Re the special project: I'm not even curious.
... like I said, it would be messy
I'm in.
Who's bringing the cone of silence?
VL means the 19th Hole trail section.
Anything I can do, I'm in
Hoping I can commit too (my wife's heavily pregnant so that could affect things for me unexpectedly)
hawkeye, I'm in for sure.
Virginia, you never put that walk of yours into the hot laps!
I live down the road, so nice and handy, and would be happy to be involved.
I am in this shindig
