You should also be asking about asset protection strategies. If you start early, it is very cheap to implement and can help minimise the impact of lawsuits against you.
Some may regard that as unethical. My take is why set yourself up as a target? I can control what I do and follow appropriate ethical standards, but I can't say the same for others who may (ab)use the law to make a quick buck at my expense. As your pockets deepen, you become a more attractive target for opportunists who may seek to greenmail you. Asset protection reduces your exposure and improves your negotiation power with them.
I can highly recommend Sam Ghoreyshi from Moneyclip. He was at 50 Clarence St but I recall getting an email over Christmas saying he's moved around the corner. Try [email protected]; 9299 2292, 0419 373 790.
He came recommended to me by a Director of one of the largest firms on the ASX who has used him for some years. I've been with him now for about 2yrs and like both his approach and the results achieved to date for my investments and Super. He set up a diverse portfolio of local & international shares and property trusts as well as some investments into specific projects locally that were subject to ATO rulings that allowed me to invest then claim 100% tax deduction and reinvest that money elsewhere.
Best thing is he charges a nominal up front fee for doing his homework for you then makes his money on % of your investments over time so he's in it for the long term with you. This ensures he constantly reviews your investments and makes changes as necessary. If you fail, he fails.
Seeing as someone has already posed the question ...
How about a reliable tax accountant / financial advisor in Mosman/Neutral Bay/Cremorne?
I'm setting up a small business and just need someone to give some advice on business structures and how to ensure I don't mess up on the tax issues. Plan would be to use them to do my accounts going forward as well.
My wife used these guys when she was running her own business with a partner. They got into strife with tax and Prolink got them out of it - instead of having a huge debt they actually got back in the black. My wife continues to use them for her own business and they also take care of our personal tax and financial advice. They're based in Silverwater but come to you, wherever you are (we live in Queenscliff).
I can't rate them highly enough. They have straightened out our financial situation and given us much needed direction.

That's CA as in Chartered Accountants.
They are used by high net worth individuals for tax, business and asset protection strategies - there's a clue for you. Use the advisors that rich people use. Not those that poor people use.
Beware of commission driven financial advisors. There is an inherent conflict of interest. Dealing with them is like asking an insurance salesman should you buy more life insurance? The answers bear an inherent skew in favour of products that yield them a commission.
Did you know that the ASX300 index beats 90% of actively managed funds over the long term? That's why my super and Automatic Investment Plan is in the Vanguard ASX300 Index fund. Pays no commissions. Only 0.35% management expense charged. More of your profit stays in your pocket to continue compounding.
My professional background: Certified Practising Accountant.

This is about as off topic a thread as I have ever seen here, even for the off topic section. lol
Of topic ?!?!
Get your finances in order and you can be thinking about N+1 bikes ...
Thanks for the suggestions, googling on the net for one is just a minefield so yeah thought it would be easier to ask for a recommendation. I have contacted Crofts, just waiting to hear back from them.
Still less money paid to the tax man = more money on bikes etc so their is some logic to it!
