A Dam good ride
When:
Sunday, 28 February, 2010 - 08:00
Duration:
3 hours
Come Rain or Shine:
If it's raining, I won't be there.
Ride Database Entry:
Manly Dam Meeting Point:
King Street (near corner with Arana Street), Manly Vale. You know - outside Manly Hydraulics Lab.
-33.781501, 151.258115 (Manly Hydraulics Lab)
Details:
I'll be out celebrating/circulating in the morning for a few hours.
This is not really an organised ride, more an invitation to join in for a lap, or 2/3/4 as you wish.
My plan is to do 2 or 3 'training' laps in the mid to high 30's, on the Mojo, then jump on the single speed and do a couple more at a more relaxed pace.
Meet at the hydraulics lab, I'll be there in my blue subaru wagon.

Was it you who was i speaking to with the WRX wagon? You had just cleared the sand away from the bridge? I also commented on your bike on the roof lol
Hey idio09s,
Yep, that was me - went on out and did a few good laps (36,35,34min), but the heat and humidity came up pretty fast - so called it a day.
It was 'interesting' out on the track today:
- A bunch of three "morons" riding in reverse on the newly opened single track despite nearly every rider riding clockwise asking them to respect the direction and mentioning the 'safety issue'. Their responses defied belief given the re-opening and the potential consequences should there have been an accident.
- Lots of riders out there, and a number (more than usual) obvious first time visitors, the recent press had probably attracted them there.
- Met a national parks landcruiser driving along against the flow just after the creek from the big descent - wouldn't have wanted to meet THAT round a blind bend at speed.
- Quite a bit of sand out there on the track. I was concerned about the thick sand drift on the concrete bridge before the lab as novices come down, so got into it with my shovel and cleared it off. Was over 10cm deep in places. I didn't like the thought of a rider sliding into the hand rails.....
- Tried out small block 8's front and rear for the first time. Been running them on the rear, but never been game to do it on the front. Pleasantly surprised and steering was far more accurate than the 2.2 Racing Ralphs that I've been running for the last year. Being a smaller bag, they seem more suited to a narrow racing rim and less flex in the tyre. Wouldn't say they hook up like a nevegal for example, but still plenty of grip through the single track and the open fire road sections.

It was in interesting day thats for sure.
I asked those guys if they knew they were travelling in the wrong direction and they gave me a very confident yes. I told them they really need to go in the other direction and they didnt reply.
I also came across a bunch of bushwalkers on what i guess would be the fire trail heading back down the end of the trail. They had a good old laugh when they heard me coming and scattered in every direction. I politely recommended them crossing to the right side of the trail as it leaves bikes the left side free and allows them to see oncoming bikes easily, they all nodded and wished me well as i passed them all which was great
I will come and say hi if i ever see you and your wagon again
