Where to mtn bike in Australia for my Honeymoon in August?

I found a girl that LOVES to ride, so I'm marrying her! We are from Northern California and ride a few days a week in spring, summer and fall. We are looking to go to Australia for our honeymoon in late August. I'm thinking Cairns or somewhere on the North East coast will be warm enough to go to the beaches and do some riding. Is Cairns a good idea? Anyone know of bike shops that rent decent hardtails? Thanks for any ideas!

What month are you thinking of?

In our winter (Jul/Aug) Cairns is the go, but in summer I'm thinking Batemans Bay in South NSW might be the go. Then you can do Canberra too.

You'll be touring around a bit too I guess? That would be the thing to do.

Depends on whether you expect surf or not. Cairns is inside the reef and gets no surf. There are also stingers (box jellyfish species) in the water, mainly at other times of the year, but they can be found all year and their sting can be fatal.

If you want to swim in hotel pools and ride in tropical rainforest, go to Cairns.

If you want to surf and ride temperate forests, go further south. Maybe Noosa / Sunshine Coast (Queensland), or Coffs Harbour (NSW). August in either area will not require much warm kit for riding, but at least a spring suit would be recommended if you want to go surfing.

Or there's always Manly.....
