Hi Everyone,

A few of us will be doing the Oaks Firetrail on Sunday 25th

Time: Meet at the carpark for Glenbrook at 7.45am ish, I'll be in the blue Ford Falcon
Train: Catch the 8.23am train from Glenbrook to Woodford, if you want to catch the train from Central it leaves at 7.18am. If you catch the central train let me know so that we can look for you at Woodford train station.
Ride: One way from Woodford to Glenbrook

I wont say much about the ride but as most have already done it, check out the other sections on this website for a review.

Hi Andrew!
Will give you a call tonight If I'll be able to make it. Would take the train.

Doing Red Hill instead.

Sensational ride, decent enough weather (no rain), and a fast time. Pushed pretty hard all the way through, and finished in just over 2 hours. The proverbial flat notwithstanding. But you get that.

Is it just me or does The Oaks seem to be getting easier?

Andrew, don't forget to post some of those U.K. links.

Ditty - don't think the Oaks is getting easier, so sounds like you've been training too hard. Go back to eating pizza and watching Fox the night before. Oh - and don't forget the beer - that should put the Oaks back on top for a while Eye-wink

Well, riding for a few hours at a time, twice per week, will play a positive role for fitness and technique. But how can one leave out beer and pizza? No way! Smiling Mmmmm, beeeer.

Hey Liam, might have something to do with the last time you rode the Oaks, you did it both ways. Anything would feel easy after that.

Ok,

At the risk of been labelled a %$%$ I'm interested in doing a speed run down the Oaks. I'm looking for a time of 1hour 45mins from the gate at the top of the trail at woodford to the entry to the park at glenbrook - and that's at the top of the nasty hill after the crossing. Any takers?

Andrew

Yeah - that's a doable time, post a new topic with a proposed date, eh? Will you want to ride both ways for a warm up? Eye-wink

Oh 9 8 7-lives, this one's for you no doubt - what are your thoughts?

Matt's picture

Yeah, I'd love to see how quick it could be done, but more importantly to find other people who like speed! If I can make it I will, just post when.

Hi Guys/girls, i generally run an oaks time of 1hr 20min - 1hr 25mins. This is from the Start of the trail at woodford (at the gate) to the train station at Glenbrook.
Rough times off the top of my head are
Woodford gate to clearing - approx 40-45mins)
Clearing to gate at bottom of downhill run - 10min -15mins
to the end of the single track - 10-15mins
end of single track up the big hill to ranger gate - 10-15mins
ranger gate to startion - 5mins
Sorry these are rough times, i have done this time on both of my bikes, 2002 giant NRS1 and 2007 giant anthem 1.
I would be happy to lead a group or someone else who wants to acheive this time.
This is at a good constant pace with no stopping at all and with no flats or breakdowns obviously. I think i could possibly go a few minutes faster with a faster rider with me.

Haven't done the Oaks in a while, but I'd like to give it a go... you planning to ride up first?

Little-Ditty's picture

Jesus mate, look what the hell you've started!! Laughing out loud

It looks like the oaks trail is on. I have no intention of riding up it before i ride down it. I'll take this idea off line and then return with a date and some ideas, making sure that we dont conflict with some other rides that have been planned.
