anyone planning or keen for a ride on sun morning or arvo? maybe ourimbah/mooney mooney (ditty? Smiling ) or ox/red hill?

Im keen for mooney mooney or ourimbah

Bruce's picture

I am not 100% sure but I think there might be a xc race at Ourimbah on sunday. Best bet is to check ccomtb web site before wasting your time driving there.

Alex's picture

thanx mate, yeh there is a race on!- oh well..maybe mooney mooney? anymore takers? be good to have a few to check it out! -also if its gonna be hot i think a non central coast ride would be a better idea...

Little-Ditty's picture

Sorry Alex, I am out on Sunday. The Mooney Mooney thing will need to wait for another week. I am still keen though.

scottm8's picture

It doesnt look like it will be too hot but the forecast says " Sunday: Isolated showers. Isolated thunderstorms in the west. East to southeast winds."

Alex's picture

yeh is looking ok scotty- once again i would rather tackle mooney with a couple more people and i know ditty has been hanging for it so i wouldnt mind waiting till hes ready- but i definantly want a ride on sunday so if noone else wants to do anything then i guess we could do mooney anywaysz.. maybe see what the response is like and call it on sat?

other rides i was thinking were a long ox/red hill loop or something maybe like the oaks? never done that before...

scottm8's picture

Yeah if you wanna wait for a few more ppl to be available for mooney mooney thats cool. im just keen for a ride. i live on the central coast but i dont mind driving down as long as it will be a good ride. but im keen either way. i was planning to ride ourimbah until i found out there was an event there on sunday. you can make a call and ill tell you if im in or out.

What part of Ourimbah is the race being held at? I thought people were raving about how much stuff there was to explore.

It's a pretty long drive, but I'm eager to go exploring.

Ditto for Mooney Mooney, though I don't know anything about it.

scottm8's picture

Its a XC race. i dont know anything about other trails..but i heard there is alot.

Little-Ditty's picture

My Sunday thing is in the late afternoon now. So my Sunday morning is free. If you want to cook up a ride for Sunday morning, I am available. Even Mooney would do. Or Red Hill or Ox Falls. But the earlier, the better. I'll leave the choice of venue to you chief. Eye-wink

Alex's picture

ok ditt well i think we should bite the bullet and do mooney! one thing i realised is the harbour bridge will be closed i think, so that may affect some of you? affects me anyways...
as for times, early-ish is ok, but i am working late the night before- im sure we can work something out though..
scotty, hope this suits -as for ourimbah, frankly if theres a race even anywhere near it, i dont wanna be there! mooney should be cool anywayz looks like an awesome trail

Alex's picture

i better call the time- say 9:30 start?

Gilbo's picture

Hi all,
i'll be making it to this one also, meeting point as per the info in the rides page?

Little-Ditty's picture

Okay so a 9:30 a.m. start sounds fine.

I can only fit in about a 2 hour ride I think. Possibly 3. I need to be in the Blue Mountains by 3:00 p.m. so I won't be stopping for too much.

Alex, where do we park? You have been there before, you will know what's best. Please post.

Cheers.

Hey guys would love to make this ride but i have somehting on in the morning. have fun

Ian's picture

Hrm... I'm probably not going to be able to make it tomorrow morning.

Manly Dam in the afternoon, perhaps?

Little-Ditty's picture

Guys, if this continues pounding down rain overnight, I will be out of this one as well. Not sure what rain you got where you are, but Hornsby got a belting this arvo.

Forecast is for a chance of more showers on Sunday morning. We'll just have to see.

Alex's picture

its forecast for showers "clearing" tomoz- but i wont be going if its raining heavily either!- see how it is in morning..
also as for where to park etc., i think were all virgins to mooney, so i think if you park as close to the gate on karool rd. as poss should be all good- i also think that you gotta get on to the old pacific highway off the sydney newcastle freeway as soon as you cross the bridge and follow it, as there is no exit off the sydney newcastle freeway..

apart from that should be pretty straight forward (i hope!) hope to see yall there! ill be in the white mitsubishi, just buzz me if u get lost or late or whatever Smiling 0421796499

Alex's picture

thanx for coming everyone, bumpy start and rather wet!- but a lovely track and good fun Smiling

Gilbo's picture

yep, was a great ride.

kudos to alex. looking forward to riding this one again, but maybe in slightly less wet conditions. track was a challenge in parts, especially the water crossings which included the odd leech here and there. hi also to new rider jacqui (hope spelling is correct/close) who joined us for this soggy ride.

Jax's picture

Loved the ride, leeches and all. Thanks for being such great company, guys.

Here are the photos I took.

Should have taken more photos, especially of the creek crossings. Next time! Smiling

Your spelling's spot on Gilbo. Impressive!

Slimy? Mudhole? My home this is!

----))----

Likewise, thanks to Alex for organising the ride - we got there eventually! It's amazing what you can achieve with a little patience. Eye-wink We will definitely go back there in warm and dry conditions, so we can ride the whole trail, in more safety too. You guys should see my bike. It looks like I have dropped it in a mudhole. I am sure yours looks the same. Lots of bike maintenance this week. Sad

Battling the weather and the local fauna, that ride seemed like more of a survival of the fittest than a leisurely bike ride. If not for the bloodsucking leeches (I got 3, how many do you do?) and the treacherous downhill mud and gravel, we were really in a battle. I "almost" had a good stack there on the downhill section, near that dam with the metal bridge. But, in the end, I am just glad the heavy rain stayed away during the morning.

And nice to meet you Jacqui. Hope we see you out and about again sometime soon. It looks like your legs, like mine, have that nice "scab" look too. Very fashionable.

Liam.
