I'll get Jaseh to post and give some feedback. He used to sell them (doesn't own the shop anymore) and still rides one.

they look like a very nice bike though. My SS is a Jamis and I love it. Pretty underrated brand if you ask me.

The XCR is a pretty sweet rig. Well spec'd for the dollars.

I've got an 08 XCR expert which is the same as this years race. Very nice bike. Only things I've done to it is put a set of XT wheels on it as the stockers are a bit of a tank and I've just had the shock converted to a RP3. The only difference in the frame from 08 to now is a bigger seattube to stiffen them up a bit more, this came in in the 09 model year. Only issue I have with mine is you can't get a bidon bigger than 500ml into it although if you go to a 19 or 21in frame this is no problem and they are a bit heavier than other offerings. The handling is very neutral, you can stay in the middle of the bike or seated for most of your riding. This is one comment I've got from nearly everyone that has had a ride on it.

If your not concerned about having the latest model check out www.adventurebrands.com.au to check for old stock, will still have to get your LBS to get a price but should be able to save heap, I paid under $3000 for mine about 6 months after getting out of my shop. You may even be able to pick up a 08,09 carbon pro for similar money to what they want for the 10 race.

Love it love it love it

Great entry level dually.

Have slowly upgraded it as my riding style/budget allowed and its my most used bike at the moment. (although I am about to try and sell it to help fund my whistler trip this year and Ill look at a new one when I get back)

my 07 dakar xam is excellent very versitile, they even gave me warranty in 09 when a swing arm cracked no problem was only out of action for 4 days!

You can also fit a 130mm travel fork with no issues with warranty to the XCR frame. The 08 Comp came with 85-130mm recons which made it into a handy trail bike

via Ebay. Very happy with the frame and handling...for cross country only though.

I have an 08 (I think) Dakar XCR & although I love the bike I have cracked the rear chainstay at the weld on both the drive & non-drive sides on separate occasions. I'm not a particularly aggressive rider & have been pretty disappointed with that.

Having said that the last time it happened the parts were replaced within a week under warranty - so very pleased with the service side of things.

The bottle size limitation is a real pain too - good reason to have a backpack arrangement though I guess.
