Capital Punishment 100km of pure mud, slop and pain
What a day. What a ride. Started in th fourth group, so the track was a mess when I went through. Sections were un rideable. The first 60 km were just never ending with alot of single track that was just four inches of mud and the paddock crossings with small grass mounds that continually pounded that seat in your clacker ( even on a dually). The first 60 just seemed to not come fast enough. And the by the time I got to the single track to stromlo it was just a mess, the brakes were gone, the rain pounded in and the trails had rivers of mud flowing on them. The only choice was to hike through it. Surprisingly the last 10km of mount stromlo was still in good shape. I'd say the better part of the race. I say better because there was not much good.
I found myself yearning for the tarmac sections ( wich I generally hate) just to have some continuity and speed on the bike.
A happy man to have conqured a real tough event. Would have been great in the dry.
Overall I'd say I enjoyed it and was glad to have been a part of it. Go figure
