Anybody have a good route to the city from Lane Cove area? There is the cycle path which goes a fair way but I'm not sure where it comes off. Any Garmin/GPS maps? Might be the only riding I get in if the rain keeps up.
Cheers

I presume you're talking about the cycle path on Epping Road? The official cycle route from there to the harbour bridge is a joke. It relies on you crossing 2 lanes of traffic entering the freeway and when coming the other way, riding the wrong way up an on ramp before this crossing.

When riding from Epping Road to the City, what you need to do is go under the freeway and skirt around to the North end of West Street. There's probably better on bikely, but look at the part of this route that goes from the bridge to the bike path near the freeway:

It then heads North, but you don't care by then - you'd just keep on heading East to Epping Rd.

I leave from lane cove north a bit after 7 and find the pacific highway to be fine. It's 3 lanes (with the left lane being a T3) almost the whole way so no one bothers you really.

Adding to Rob's comments - there is a section of the official route (shoulder of the freeway) which is closed at the moment so there's a detour (I haven't used it) which might not be great. I don't find crossing the freeway entrance crossings too bad but yeah it is dangerous and it is ridiculous the way that bike path finishes at naremburn. Riding along the shoulder of the freeway is not that pleasant either especially early when traffic is whizzing past and I've never ridden that way on the way back - didn't know you could! I prefer the pacific highway but maybe the route Rob outlined above is better - I haven't looked.

Happy to meet up for a ride in some morning if you want to team up the first time you go in.

+1 for the Pacific Hwy.

I ride from Mowbray Rd (Lane Cove/Chatswood) to the City and back most days anytime between 8-1030am/4-9pm and haven't had any majors (yet...touch wood.). Have only given the 'cycle path' route a go once, and haven't been keen to give it another one..

I have been commuting to and from North Ryde and find the cycle way all good - the off-ramp crossing is a bit dodgy but OK. I go up on to West St and from there down Miller through North Sydney. Alternatively could go down straight ahead up the road from the off ramp and at the Cammeray Stocklands you can come down into North Sydney/Kirribilli (they are building a new cycleway there now) and hook up with the trail across the bridge...

Good to hear people are using this ok, hopefully we might end up with a full cycle route to the city one day without crossing on-ramps. Cheers for the offer PSD but you maybe a little early for me, I run to the bridge and back from Lane Cove (half marathon prep only) so I should be good to go, just waiting for some bits to arrive from the UK and i'll start commuting on the bike.

Cheers guys.
