BB-30/press-in bb setups
Does a Trance X have "BB-30/press-in bb setups". I know I have BB, but is it "BB-30/press-in bb setups"?
I'm heading back to 1x9 and this time I'd like to use the following:

a Giant has a standard external bottom bracket.
a BB30 is a press fit internal bearing system that Cannondale developed and a lot of road bike and weight concious mtb brands are using now.
that chain guide would be useless with them but you'll be ok with your Giant.
With the exception of a rear rotor I now have all the parts for my single speed project. Is it worth having one of these on a single speed?
Andrew
I don't think so. I'm no expert but with SS you generally just use a little chain tensioner I think, that sits further back on the chain stay near the cassette. I'm from the dark old days of BMX, the old BMX frames had rear drop outs so the location of the axle would provide the tension as it was essentially an extra small ridged SS. I'm guessing if you don't have rear drop outs (probably not if your doing a conversion) then you will need a tensioner or something. I have no idea what a 2010 BMX has.
That chain guide I'm getting acts like the front derailleur (instead of having a front derailleur), or my chain will bounce straight off (I've tried it haha, and tried lots of home made jobs before they inverted this thing)
I'm guessing you will have more tension on your chain than mine as I will have a dually with chain slap on the top and a rear derailleur providing slap at the bottom. I think the SS tensioner looks a bit like a small shopping trolley wheel.
There will be some SS experts here who can help you, maybe start a new thread asking about your plan to set up as a SS.
Thanks Noel.
I picked up a simple single speed kit at a sale a while ago which included the chain tensioner and cassette spacers. I wasn't sure how much (if any) chain slap I would still have and I hadn't considered this (to be a problem) until I saw this thread. I guess I just like buying stuff...
