kiwarrak weekend
Deans Creek Road
So here it is as discussed previously a weekend @ Kiwarrak state forest riding & exploring those awesome looking trails.I'll be driving up on Friday arvo hoping to be there by around 3-3:30pm.I'll then try & find a good camping spot & get set up.May i suggest those coming along for this ride get my phone number from my profile just in case you can't find me or you're running late etc. Those of you who would like to come just for the day are more than welcome to do so we'll probably start riding about 9am saturday & sunday(or maybe earlier) those coming for the weekend will need to be self sufficient (ie bring own food, drinks, heaps of water, bedding & tent or swag).Should be a great weekend of mouintain biking fun hope to see there.
WE WILL NOW BE STAYING HERE

As bluray says if you are staying the weekend you need to be self sufficient. There are no facilities on site, so bring plenty of water etc. We can probably work some of the cooking facilities out closer to the time so everybody doesn't need to bring everything.
Taree is close by so if we do forget anything we are not far away from civilization.

Anyone (locals ?) got any ideas about the best place / location to camp ?
D
and well worth a leave pass for, sadly I'll be back in Yorkshire hopefully tearing up the trails around Sheffield. I'll say hi to Peaty for you.
if you want to camp hit old bar or manning point both have caravan / camping parks available that are right on the beach so you could have a great ride followed by a beer on the beach at end of day. Old bar would be the pick as it is only approx 10 mins direct drive to kiwarrak.
Oh dear... that sounds tough
at Old Bar sounds ideal - hot showers would be a bonus too.
yes it does sound quite good, hot showers, beer on the beach. What does everyone else think?Bush camping or caravan park?
check this out.

Ok by me
No fires though, but all the other bonuses make up for this.
Probably an easy location for us all to meet as well. Otherwise we could be all meandering around the forest on the Friday night.

just rang Lanis on the beach, camping fees are $25 a night.we will need to try & be there by 6pm to check in, I told her that there may be 1 or 2 who will be later she said that would be ok, but just to remind her when i get there. I'll be there between 3-4pm. Give me a ring that afternoon with an E.T.A & i will let her know.
that's per site I imagine - let us know what we owe and we can fix it up. Looking forward to this one (hope the back is better).
yes that's per site, asked about booking, there's no need to book so just pay for your own site fees when you get there.
Perhaps this will help you guys out when you come for a ride. We actually have a social ride at 7am Saturday mornings. Have a look at this link.

look like heaps of fun,& a bit of variety too.Only 2 weeks to go.
does that all look! Good that we're planning a couple days, looking forward to this one. Locals seem to have done an amazing job with trail building.
and what's more, they're a friendly bunch.
My plans for last weekend got cancelled so I'm heading up next weekend.
Keep an eye out for Two Dogs and Sweet As.
my aunty lives up at Old Bar(near Taree & Kiwarrak state forest) so it looks like me & me dad will be making a visit real soon.
this is going to be a gas of a weekend I have allready started counting the sleeps,my missus reckons MTBing has made me act like a little kid ,maybe she is right but I sure feel good from it
Hey, you might want to check out this user's CG:

Less than a week to go now, have started packing a few things already.Need to get some new tires for the bike this week.
have started my list of essentials and spare parts coz i know if i take them i wont need them ! gotta get some new grips and chain lube, then start packing tomorrow after my morning ride of course
Hey John
Do you know what the deal is for late arrival ( say 9pm) on the Friday night ?
I have everything organized now - looking fwd to getting away.
Wayne
I think they stay open until 6pm,when i spoke to them i told them there will be some late arrivals& she said ok as long as i let them know.May be just as easy to give them a ring on (02)65537274 & let them know what time you'll be there.
so i'll give them a bell, and take your number too john, and call you friday early arvo!
just seen naz has joined too, this weekend is gonna be sweeeeet!!!
for this weekend, got half my stuff packed. So dicko& brakeburner should be arriving Friday evening. When is everyone else planning on getting up there?
i'm hoping to arrive at about 630pm friday ,I will let myself leave work early on friday and go straight up from there .I too am allready 1/2 packed and counting the sleeps was going to head up on sat morn but changed my mind.
so yeah count me in! Can't wait either - this will be my first weekend away in ages - praying it doesn't rain! I am planning on arriving at the meeting point at 9am Saturday morning and will call or text you John if for any reason I am running late.
I rode Kiwarrak yesterday, but stayed in the section east of the Pacific Highway towards Old Bar, as my riding partner would have been out of his depth on the singletrack descents you guys will be enjoying next weekend.
He's 74, so I'm letting him off this time. ... He still climbs pretty good though, especially considering as - he put it - "I haven't been on the bike much this winter".
Except for the bogs created by the horses and 4WDs in the low sections of fire road, the trails were dry. Assuming no rain over the next week you guys should be fine.
No worries Naz, great to have you along.
Up until 2pm today they've only had 0.2mm of rain & the weekend's looking great. Fine friday, increasing cloud saturday, late shower sunday.
yeah John have been keeping an eye on the weather, looks promising but i wasn't going to post anything didn't want to jinx us...!
At this stage it ain't looking so good for me to be joining in on the fun as my frame has cracked again so bike is being packed up and sent off today or tomorrow, depending on how things go I may possibly be purchasing a giant trance x1 in next couple of days. See how we go.
6 hours of work to go & then i'm outta here. Can't wait to get up there set up camp then sit back & relax with a beer or 2,& then there's the riding on saturday & sunday woohoo. I'm getting a little excited now.
Great weather forecast and some freshly groomed trails by the sounds of it.
Looking fwd to it.
Re supplies there is a super market in old bar, so if you forget anything don't stress civilization is not too far away.
Looking to be up there between 8 and 9, so John keep a few camp sites together if you can.
See you tomorrow.
D
rang them this arvo told them we were coming up, booked 6 unpowered sites doesn't matter if we use them all or not.
sorry to hear the bad news, give us a ring if you can't make it.
no prob's. Im trying to sort something out. hopefully i'll see you there.
good to see one more name on the list, 8 riders, 100km of trails ,camping on the beach and a weekend pass how good does it get!
I'm in all sorted see you all there in the morning
Probably the best weekend i've ever had on a bike, just so many awesome trails & a great bunch of guys also. This place has got it all from nice flowing single tracks to jump trails, techy descents & climbs, seesaws, ramps & gap jumps will definately be organising another weekend up there it's just too good & will continue to get better.
A big thankyou to the local guys up there for all their hard work preparing trails & showing us around, with out them we would have definately got lost & not seen or done half the stuff we did.
thoroughly enjoyed saturday great bunch and great ride, nice meeting you all. Look forward to seeing you all up here again. Look forward to seeing all the photo uploads. Wish I could of rode and stayed the weekend with you guys maybe next time.
John I second that.
Extra Special thks to the local guys, Dave, Ian, Mark James + many others I just can't remember all the names.
The time the guys spent with us, showing us all there handy work was great. Great bunch of guys her really luv riding and building some of the best tracks I have seen in Oz.
Will be great to get up there again soon. Will definitely say hello at the fat tyre festival if I don't see you before then.
