Update: 4/5

The dam is back open, and by all accounts is looking pretty good.

Update: 28/4

Must be real soggy out there, the sad news is...

Manly Dam bike trail to re-open next friday 4th May.

Thanks again to all those kept off the track.

Update: 24/4

The bike trail at Manly Dam is currently closed due to the rain. Once again we'll send out a note when we've reopened.

Please spread the word to others.

Thanks, Manly Dam Rangers

Yup - so it's now official.

We are not officially closing the bike trail after rain this time however this email is a quick reminder for riders to keep of the Manly Dam bike trail for a least a few days after rain. We received 35mm of rain on Sunday, significant enough to result in the track becoming water logged in places.

Manly Dam is a special case due to the numbers of riders that come here; official survey result have found peak daily use of the track at 241 riders between 8am and 4pm on an average winter Saturday.

The track dries out quickly and the amount of trail damage is dramatically reduced if riders stick to this wet weather 'rule'.

Thanks again,

Manly Dam Rangers

I think it's great to see this sort of positive engagement from the management of the Manly Dam area. I only hope riders are responsible and stick to this management policy to so that we can enjoy this recreational area for a long time into the future.

Question: do the Rangers post signs around the dam after rain about track closures and management suggestions?

Interesting statistic about 241 riders on a winter Saturday. I would have thought there would be more riders than that. More than 500 in a day. But possibly there are more in summer, when it is SUPPOSED to be sunny! Comments?

Anyone know if the trail is open yet?

I'm sure we'll be getting a mail telling us when.

Hi guys,

No updates on the dam so it's still closed 'til 4th from what I know.

The rangers are now quiet organised and send out mailings. See the post if you want to be added to their list (which is where our info comes from).

I've heard from a guy who lives next to the dam that riders are still on there, which is not good. Access is a privilege, not a right, etc, etc... if you see people riding when there are 'Closed' signs up please give them an earful as these jokers will spoil it for all.

Hi all I am newbie to the list but have been riding the dam most of my life , I grew up just down the road from the school, It is shame that the trails are becaming more of a dirt highway each year and less stuff is able to be ridden, but what can you do, I would hate to see the dam track closed completely to mtbers.
The other weekend I was walking my dog around the Allambie oval and saw the sign near the tennis courts (" No Bike Riding Dam Closed") which I thought was very visible. Then a Toyota Torago rolls up with a trailer and 2 DH weapons, I couldn't believe it they were doing shuttle runs down the 19th hole track.

Regards
JasonB

Just in case anyone was left wondering, Manly Dam is open again. The state of the trail is pretty good too.
