Narrabeen Lake/Lagoon

Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone has ridden around the whole of Narrabeen Lake and know the legality of traveling on the golf course and Sports Institute grounds. I think there is public access on the golf course much to the dismay of the golfers... But, there is a big sign on the Sports Institute telling people that it is private property and not to enter. Which is a pity as its would complete a great circuit. All but 1km is off the bitumen, and is very flat. Great for beginners.

Thanks in advance,

Michael

Well, we rode that the other week. Plenty of golfers and not one of 'em had a go. Think this speaks for itself, you would have thought they'd object if it was at all possible to put us off.

That was the first time I'd been down there so can't really comment - I'm sure someone (Liam?) will be along in a while to give the technical explanation.

Golfers dont care, the NSWIS does. Warringah council are very keen to have a cycleway all the way around the lake, but NSWIS are against this due mainly to the proximity such a track passes to their high ropes course.

As far as I know, the Golf Course leases the land from the Council, and the Council makes them let you through, and the Golfers don't care at all. As far as the Sports Acedemy is concerned, I don't know the legal position, but I ride around there regularly (its 1km from home, so it's a quick "no car load up" after-work ride), and the guys that work there give you a wave, and say G'day, I've never had a problem.
By the way, chances are you'll see Manly there training in the arvo's.
cheers
Mike
P.S. For people that haven't been there before, cos its so easy and wimpy, Its a great flat 10km ride, really good for newbies, or slackers like me Smiling

and never have any trouble - in fact just did a circuit an hour ago. NSWIS - I think if you were jumping off their walls and equipment they might kick up a stink, so just trundle through to get to the other side of the lake and there won't be any worries. And if you are riding there when there are kids around, be really careful not to hit one so there can't be any reason for them to lock us out!

FWIW, I do not know the legality of riding through the golf course. Possibly the course management might have an objection if you stop to practice your short game. Smiling Otherwise, it's not like you are using their facilities for free, right? Your just playing through!

I went for a ride around there this morning for the first time. Easy, very nice between pitwater road and south creak road. But as I was riding through the golf course one of the female staff members said “you know this is private property!? Don’t come this way again!” I pleaded ignorance and kept going. Maybe we should give the golf club a call and get their official stance?

i've been thru there heaps of times, and no staff member has been within 400m of me. the fact she said "don't come this way again",makes me think you went the wrong way, and i definately think contacting them to find out their "stance" is possibly the worst thing to do. Kevin, happy to do a lap with ya, i'll show you safe way. most arvos are fine.
cheers
Mike
