Sealing Non UST Tyres on UST Rims
I'm trying to use non UST tyres as UST. Is there any trick to getting them to seal on the rim? The rims are UST.
I have a compressor at home but can't try until the morning.
Also, I normally run with 1.5 lid fulls of stans with UST tyres. Do I need to run more.
Cheers
Brian

Patience and you may have to use a bit more stan's as side walls on non ust tyres can have a few pin holes. Why are u runing non ust tyres? i try it but went back to ust
(1) Put them on the rim with a tube in, pump 'em up and leave them over night.
(2) Remove tube in the morning, with only breaking the bead on one side if possible.
(3) Lube up bead with plenty of soap n go for broke.
(4) Holding tyre vertical (i.e. how it would be on your bike if you were riding) and rock/shake tyre sideways (i.e. if you were leaning your bike over). Rotate tyre whilst shaking.
(5) Lay tyre horizontal to ground (use a bucket or something similar so it actually lays flat) leave for a few minutes then flip and check bead for leaks. If there is any leaks repeat 4. if not lay on the other side for a few minutes and check bead.
Good luck!
Just out of curiosity which tyres will you be running?
Today was the first time in 5 years I have actually used a UST tyre on one of my bikes. It was heaps easier to inflate but one of the trick I have for seating non UST tyres is this, I have an air blower gun for my compressor with a rubber tip on it, the hole for the air to pass through was really mall so I've trimmed it back a bit to make the hole big enough that it pushes onto the presta valve. Doing this increases the volume you can get into the tyre and they pump up just as quick as the UST tyres. I don't even have to soap the bead.
i run maxxis non ust 2.5 minions, on the mavic deemaxs ust rims. use about 2 caps of stans sealant, and when not beading properly i have some soapy water to make things easier. didnt hold air for the first few weeks real well. but now they are running great.
Follow what TimmyAus said and you should be fine.
I got them sealed. One at 11pm at the servo and one this morning as I couldn't get it to work. The one this morning I used the tube trick a lots off soapy water. I didn't use sealant to get it to seal but them filled it via the valve stem. Rode today and the tyres held up fine. I'm trying Maxxis Aspen 2.1 60TPI.
