Fork advice

Hi guys, I am after your opions on a small dilema I have. I have my trusty Kona Dawg which has been relegated to commuter and spare bike when needed. I have recently gone over the bike and replaced bottom bracket, headset, chain and rings etc. I have been getting a clunky noise on impact at the front end which had to be either the front hub or the forks. I knew the hub was suspect so I replaced the front wheel and at the same time changed the fork oil. Noise is still there. So my question is -

1. am I best to put the forks into LBS for a service - no idea on fork service price (fork is Marzocchi bomber)

2. replace fork with new - given the dollar is strong and it is a spare bike - I can bike up a fork sub $300.00

I would be interested in opinions - cheers guys.

Are you sure it isn't the headset? If it didn't seat fully when you intalled it, it may have after a ride or two giving the clunk you hear.

OEM marzocchi forks can be difficult to get service parts for.

If you need new Marzocchi wipers and seals then these guys will probably have them. Cheap too.

Undo the steerer clamp bolts on your stem, tighten the top cap bolt (gently! 2.5-3Nm max) to put a bit of preload on the headset bearings, and then retighten the stem clamp bolts.

You only want enough preload to take out free play under normal riding loads. So hold the front brake on and put your weight on it and push the bike around to make sure there's no movement under brakes. You don't want to put too much preload as it will bind up your steering.

If this doesn't resolve the issue then you know it's probably fork related.
