Recon Pop loc dilemma ???
Have taken up a bit of bike mechanics with varying success. Recently ordered a pop loc conversion kit to fit to my 120mm Recon shocks on a 2009 Scott Spark. Pulled the compression damper out and the one in the kit is shorter than the one originally installed in the shocks. I have been advised this is the correct kit but it is definetly a different length. Is there a spacer or modification I would need to do to the remote lock out damper? This is really doing my head in as I can't find anything on the internet and the Rock Shox manual doesn't show any more than one remote loc out for the Recon Shoxs.

Wil,
I have the same shocks as you and I want to put a lock out on them too ( part number 114311390000 ? ). So i will be very interested in your experiences with the install. RE the length; I don't think that it is too much of a worry. Just put it in and see how it goes. Do they specify a different oil level for the lock out kit? When I changed my old Manitou Mars forks to a lock out/anti bob TPC, the damper cartridge was a different length and required a different oil level.
Ok will try this and let you know. Not sure of the prt no now I have tossed the original box. It has been sitting around for a while
So I didn't wait for you to install yours and report back Wilbur.
I bought one and installed it. The job was very straight forward - you are right ; The cartridge is a different length and when I first tested it there was no lock out at all so I refered to the Rock Shox online manual http://www.sram.com/en/service/rockshox/tech_man... and found that the Pop Lock damper requires about 15 mls more oil than the standard lock out.
Just tested it with the added oil and it locks out - sorta. It definitely stiffens up a lot but not as much as the original. I will rest ride and see if it improves and perhaps put another 5mls of oil in.
Hope this helps Wil.
Cheers Ian.
PS. I have allways found these forks to be very stiff no matter what pressure I use so I worked a little bit of oil into the wiper seals and Voila
- the forks have loosened up tremendously.
