Garmin Edge 305 battery replacement
I noticed that the battery life on my Garmin Edge 305 had (over the last three years) dropped to about 6 hours from the 12 hour typical battery life that it is meant to have when new. 6 hours is not enough for a 100km enduro race or a 24 hour race.
I found this website
http://www.jimcarson.com/2009/replacing-the-batt...
and replaced the battery with a 3.7volt 1000mAh LG mobile phone battery which I got off ebay for about $8. The original garmin battery was only 850mAh so the new one should theoretically give me 14 hours of battery life (yet to fully test it).
I'm no soldering guru but I have to say it was a very easy job and painless. Plus I also wedged the paper under the usb connector to help prevent the random power downs that happen with Garmin Edge 305s. Much easier using the paper wedge trick than Rob's "How to fix your Garmin Edge - Extreme Edition" http://nobmob.com/node/8729

Easy solution - just ride faster in the 100km races.
..... I will second Mr Brooks comment above.....hahhaha
Nick, Will be keen to hear how long it lasts!!
...and struggle to finish them in under 6 hours.
Anyway Ian - my Garmin isn't held together with rubber bands anymore or, in your case cable ties, as I glued it togther as part of the battery upgrade process....
.... my Garmin has been working perfectly under the cable tie regime for around 18 months
Would like the new 800 if I could buy it from overseas and somehow get the Aussie maps without forking out a small fortune....hmmm
..... could no longer be classified as young under any reasonable measure I, on the other hand, am a spritely 36!!
Not long for me as a veteran...
Hey Nick
How's the Edge running 6 months later? All good?
Would love to hear how it's going. When you get a sec can youpost an update?
Cheers
Phil
Good as new and long battery life.
