Garmin edge 500
I recently bought one of these from a local sports shop. It came with the HRT monitor and includes a speed and cadence sensor, which I thought will be useful for training purposes.Everything is setup and works, is attached and I have used it quite a few times. The download feature is awesome post a ride. The thing that I cannot get working is the cadence syncing...I have tried quite a few times...seems simple enough? Can anyone help with this aspect of the setup? I'm willing to come to you if you're on the N beaches somewhere?
Let me know...
Thanks
Steve

Have you got the magnet attached to your crank arm and inline with the line on the sensor?
Yip...
pressing that little button on the sensor that goes from red to green when it is working?-on screen you will get a pop up saying 'cadence sensor detected'
The little red/green light flashes when the sensor flies past and I've hit reset a number of times....no reading on the screen...
Do you mean it flashes when the crank passes it or the wheel magnet?
Also, just to make sure the garmin is picking up the sensor for speed. if you raise the rear wheel and spin it, does the Garmin register a km/h reading?
Thanks Brian...yip I've got speed and I'm not sure if that's satelite driven or sensor driven...I suspect it's satelite because when I spin the wheel there's no reading. I've tried to align everything as close as possible. When I've gone through the set-up on the unit....it asks for a sensor number and cad number...any idea on what that might be, and if it might play a role?
There's an option to rescan for the sensor. Do this and it should work.
tried that a couple of times....no joy!
Maybe just replace the battery in the sensor and then try again. I had an issue lately that it wasn't reading right and hard for the unit to pick up the sensor and a new battery did the trick.

Make sure you installed you GSC10 on the chain stay opposite to your drive train.
The GSC10 sensor arm needs to be within 5mm of the spoke magnet when it passes.
Has your Garmin 500 paired with the GSC10?
if not, refer to page 28 in the maunaul. It has step by step instructions on how to scan for your GSC10
That was Ant compatible and after a long frustrating process of trying to pair it up with the garmin I gave up and gave it back.
I feel your pain! I think some garmin units are just not picking things up properly as I've had problems in the past with my heart rate strap also.
Good luck and try not to stamp on it whilst screaming profanities!
sorry i had to say something...
It's HRM not HRT... HRT = Hormone Replacement Therapy
we know what twotommos means but i thought it was pretty funny
I Just got a Garmin Edge 800 and all setup was fine...
I'm wondering if you should do a factory reset and start again...
I thought the HRT was just being in spirit of the Bathurst 1000
I love the wit.....HRT, HRM and PDF yip I'm moving into acronym denial...appreciate it dudes!
Still no joy...I might do the battery swap, everything else is as it should be...then I'll probably phone Garmin....or Pieter de Villiers...?
Cheers
Steve
You can also try a firmware update for your Garmin
I had the same issue trying to sync my 705. I pulled the battery out of the sensor, put it back in and it worked straight away. Try that first before buying a new battery.
good tip Jase i'll give it a go....thanks
Once you get it working you'll realise the rides you've been doing are actually longer. When the Garmin 500 just uses GPS you are always short changed on the distance ridden.
whoooppppeee....it's working...I moved my sensor and adjusted the arm to as close as possible and did a full update on the software....and now she's beautiful...a mine of information. Thanks to all contributors!
Cheers
