Took the new bike for a spin
Date:
23 Mar 11
Challenge:
Terry Hills - Duck Hole/Centre track - Loop
Time:
00:30:20 I now have a new super duper light weight bike. This was it's first ride! 3 Days after 250mm of rain... The track was damp and the sand was sticky. I have decided i dont like the tyres that are on it (Maxxis Rendez and Crossmarks) as i prefer the schwalbe range (lighter, faster). Will experiment with another lightweight set i have in the cupboard next week maybe...
Otherwise not too bad. The bike loves the uphills, but is a bit skittish on the downs. Look out Manly Dam - when it is dry enough!!!
Max HR 191 on the Akuna Bay/West Head Hill
Oh and roadies dont like being overtaken by a MTB... : )

You know the rules ...
Photos or it didn't happen!
Picture this....
Cannondale Scalpel Team
Full XX
SLR wheelset
Hollogram cranks
Pretty much carbon everything (incl pedals)
Weight - including pedals, bar ends, lights and GPS... have a guess...
Pics or ban
Trust me - im no IT guru... Will post pics tomorrow. (with help from someone who is an IT guru...)
I would guess around 8.9kg
Weight will largely depend on and tyres, and if you include pedals, computer, cages etc.
My dually has varied between 9.1kg and 9.8 by just changing tyres and wheels. Raced capital punishment on it at 9.4kg with crests and race king protection 2.2s. My guess is the scalpel will be very similar.
Total weight incl: GPS, carbon pedals, micro lights came in at 8.86kg at the shop.
BUT - i was running very very light (read unreliable) Maxxis 310's
Have now changed them to a lightweight UST (550gm per tyre)
So Total weight is 9.34 with above mentioned equip.
Cant wait for the Dam to dry! Im no Super Tate, but sub 30 is on the cards.
Im still experimenting with the setup though.
Damn I was out by 40 grams
I would love a Scalpel but I don't think I would do it justice (or get approval )
But - At this stage i still feel the Rize was the most perfect bike ive ever ridden. It was light (10.7kg total) and was a plush do anything (ish) bike. I also miss the twist grips..... Please SRAM make a 10 speed twist grip....
Ok - nostalgia is back in the box. The real world says that 110mm travel is all i need for a point and shoot bike around the northern beaches. My posse usually ride the likes of the Dam, PLT, DH +C and a few other non tech rides. I also love Kiwarrak and will take it up in 2 weeks for a spin.
I also like riding fast and skills aside weight does make a difference. Time and fitness will tell.
My aim at the mo is to better my times on DH+C, M Dam, and Quarry track. The biggest aim as uasual is just to get out and ride with my mates.
and be the first to the top of the hills
Did you keep the rize or was this a N+1-1?
I have the RZ140 Carbon 1 and by far the best bike I have had (except for the friggin noisy rear brake) and yes, I'm would contemplate 2x10 when sram bring out the 10spd version grip shift.
Ive just told the wife ive put some different stickers and things on the bike.... : )
I bought a brand new CBR600 many years ago without telling the misses. I figured it was easier to ask for forgiveness then approval. I don't think I would get away with that today though . She couldn't believe it when I got home and said I bought a new motor bike.
I no longer own it though as I found there wasn't enough time for all the toys
Please tell me you're just kidding about getting away with a 'sticker change'!
I've just done a little web-perving on the scalper and that thing is seriously drool-worthy. I'm expecting sub-20 minute laps of the dam next
The Scalpel with those specs is my dream bike!
Please check out this link "How to post photographs" and post up some pics (of the bike ) so I/we can examine/admire/fantasize!
So, Black Flash, how are you going to deal with the knowledge that you bought your impending sub 30 time around the Dam?
(I'm not sure you'd deal with it as I would...dance a little jig, bust out "stir the pot", do some cartwheels, lift the shirt up over the face soccer style and run around straight into a tree.)
No, I guess you'll go out and so a sub 29 after that.
Nice bike!
I believe Black Flash is splashing the cash for Hot Laps too - we need a control bike for all Hot Laps. I suggest a HUFFY all 19kgs of it.
I know he recently tried to lower his body weight by leaving half of his skin on West Hd Road but now a 8KG bike??
....for hot laps??!
