Imagecache Migration
In case anyone noticed (and not sure they should have)...
I've just modified the way images are handled on the site. Please shout out if you see anything 'funny' happening with them (missing images, images with strange aspect ratios or sizes, etc).
For those that want to know what I'm talking about...
Drupal (the CMS on which the site is build) has a culture of moving forward and dropping dead wood from the project. This is good (because it means compatibility with the old ways are not maintained) but is also bad (because it means compatibility with the old ways are not maintained)
Anyhow - since launch we have been using the (now old style) image module for creation of images and display of galleries.
Some time ago to prepare for this I turned off the image gallery module and started using views for them instead. This paved the way for what just happened today.
That is, I just turned off the image module and converted all the 'image' content types to use the imagefield module, with various sizes being created with imagecache (as is currently the case for images that were included in blog posts, classifieds, forum topics, etc).
Not only is imagecache more efficient, but this will allow more consistent viewing of galleries. For example - if you blog about an event and include images attached to that blog post we will be able to show these in the event gallery along with all the individual images that are shown in there. This won't happen just yet, but it will come.
It is also nice not to rely on the older module too of course. D7 will be along soon and the less modules in use the better.
Enjoy

I notice that the thumbnail preview images in the random image fields no longer have the image title pop up when I mouseover.
In IE8.
The missing mouse over title on images isn't a browser thing... for once
Yeah, when showing images this module really should put alt/title tags in for the name (title) of the node, but it doesn't.
I'm not sure why the module does this, I might just update it as we're not on the latest and have a tinker about.
Hi Rob,
I've noticed that when you click on an "image" from the map view it pops up a description, but no photo.
It's been ages since I've tried to do that, so I can't really remember how it used to work ... but I'm assuming we should see a photo too?
Ooops... that should be fixed now.
