My new ride - Marin Mount Vision 5.7 + review
My riding style has changed a bit over the past 6 months. Becoming more trail/all mountain orientated. Due to this my Norco 6 had become a bit redundant and difficult to ride on those longer trail epics. Enter the need for a new bike.
Since my light free-riding days are all but over, I still do like the occasional 4-5ft drop. I basically needed a do it all bike. It needed to be able to climb like a goat, ride trails all day long and descend techy rock gardens etc with ease.
After testing a number of bikes, and doing a heap of research, I decided on the Marin. It's such an impressive bike. I was dumb founded at how well it climbed rough, loose and steep climbes. Just sit down and go for it! The rear end felt like it had so much traction. It was actually exceptionally surprising just how well it followed the rough ground with barely any traction loss. U climbed up this particular hill faster and easier than all my other bikes, (Inc my carbon Rush, Norco 6, Jamis Parker and a Blur Lt I borrowed).
Descending it again has so much grip and stability, the slack head angle was one of the attractions. Taking it off a few drops I was again surprised at how bottomless it felt. I even intentionally went slow off a couple to see how it reacted and it was so forgiving. I can't wait for the forks to break in and get that awesome plushness to match the perfect rear end.
I'm going to change a couple of things, but it's only to suit me personally. I'm going to put a shorter stem on it, probably around 70mm. And I will probably get the 12mm maxle conversion for it. But I'm not sure how it will effect the handling.
I'll be sure to report back after a few more rides and let you all in on how it's going. I'll take a couple of pics and put them up too.

Muvro,
I ride a Marin attack trail 6.8. I'm super stoked with the Marin, you have made a wicked choice, there are not many about although as more people have a test ride I'm sure that will change. I've only changed the tyres from Kenda nevagals to Maxxis ardents (super tacky). After almost loosing the front a couple of times I made the change and haven't come close since. Such a great feel and confident inspiring ride.
Lezo
Good to see someone else has a Marin.
I took it down the fire trail from Ralston Rd down to cascades and up to the road at the top and back again. I've named the bike 'Goat', coz it climbs like one... Lol
I'm still blown away how it rides, on the descent it was as you put it Lezo, confidence inspiring. The way the rear end tracks and absorbs bumps and rocks without unsettling the bike allowing the front-end to do it's thing. I reckon it descended as good as my norco if not better. Going over the rough rocky stuff on the trail, the ride was so plush I could all but feel the bumps.
Yeah, the standard tyres are Maxxis Ignitors in 2.1. I'm probably going to swap them out for a set of Schwalbe Racing Ralphs in 2.25 tubeless. Best tyre I've used. Also going to put a shorter stem on it, 70mm.
endurance race bike ? Have you seen your pics from Mt Annan yet ?
LOL, nah this is my do everything bike. The Rush hasn't finished with me yet... LOL
Pics would be nice!
Pics or it didn't happen !!
LOL, been meaning to take some. but keep forgetting. I'll grab some tonight. I'm a big fan of the paintjob on it.
Here's a crummy pic of it.
I'll get some better pics out on a trail.
Hi,
I've noticed you're selling this bike after many upgrades... did you got disappointed?
I'm considering to buy this bike and would value your opinion.
Many thanks
Hi,
It's a great bike! The only reason I sold it was because of the tracks that I ride and i got an offer i couldnt refuse on an Orbea Rallon.
I originally had a Norco 6 and mostly did free riding. But after a friend hurt himself real bad, I stopped free riding, sild my Norco and bought the Marin and just started riding trails and little bit of light all mountain stuff. But after a bit, I found I was riding rougher and more techy riding and wanted to get something with 150mm travel. Hence the purchase of the Rallon.
If you are after a Marin I've seen one for sale on rotorburn,

The rear end has so much traction. I can't get over how under-rated they are here in Aus.
