Because it's a little more than a sport, a little less than a religion ad one hell of a way of life

Because life's to short to be bored

Because Andrew Penny urged everyone to get out and become part of the glorious past of somebody elses future

Because i hang out in the places other people would rather be, if only they knew of them

Because, just because

In newsagents they would only show these photos in a magazine wrapped in plastic.

The rain even makes it look more sexy.

I just want to go for a ride now.

That's a beautiful piece of art. Tell me, how good is it, I want to hear all about it.

Initial thoughts....

First what I didn't like so much and I'll preference this with the fact that I have been riding a GT marathon for 3 years so there is always going to be a bit of getting use to time

Chain line:

The advantage of running the 2 x 10 on the Gt was that the big ring lined up with the middle of the cassette and I could utilise the whole cassette while in the big ring, in fact I hardly ever took it out of big ring.

With the blur the proximity of the swing arm mean I had to put a spacer behind the bb to make sure the big ring didn't rub on swing arm. This meant the chain line when in big ring up the front and the lower end of the cassette up the back is a little bit crap. No huge deal but it annoys me enough that I'll stuff about machining up a narrower spacer to get it across just the little bit

flex

doing the old grab the rear tyre and see what flexes thingie in the work shopI noticed a bit more flex than I get out of the GT, mind you it is almost a kilo lighter. The upside is I didn't notice flex at all on the trail

Now the Good bits

The ride

Staring at my new bike while it rained outside got the better of me and I slipped out for a quick test ride.

Straight off the bike felt balanced. Really well balanced.

Climbing felt solid and even on some of the steeper bits going up the bottom of Pony Express it felt like it was putting power down with out trying to loft the front wheel.

Coming down was just as stable and I felt pretty at home on it right away. Light an nimble yet stable in the air. So far I like.

You will smash that Lidsdale course on that weapon - it will eat up the tight twisty single track.

Nice bike, i have an older blur, love ridding that bike.
Yep chainstay clearance with 2x10 can be a real bugger.. Sad

been looking at that frame on the santa website for the last 4 months.
still saving up my pennies though.
not that it would matter too much but do you happen to know the weight of the frame and shock alone?
cheers

The Blur is great looking machine, that's for sure. I just moved from a Titus Racer X to a Giant Anthem X 29er - not nearly as sexy but a beautiful mount none the less. I love the Maestro suspension. Perhaps I'll take a few pic's in the rain and see if that makes it look a bit more amorous.

Oh and the crash was me being a sook. normal hit the double but was taking it "easy cause it was anew bike and wet and stuff. the logs in the jump turned out to be a little more slippery than I thought... should have jumped.
