What is the best chemicals/cleaning products to use when cleaning the dirty black grit out of components?

I have what I consider a pretty good cleaning method - but everyone will be different and not agree.
- I take my chain off every few rides and clean it in a closed container of turps; you can actually reuse the turps many times over by pouring it into a bottle after letting the shit settle out.
- Wash the chain off with a hose to get all the turps out then hang up to dry. Relube with chosen lube and let it dry. Relube again and let dry again - overnight if possible. Completely wipe down chain so it is dry - you only want lube in the rollers. I use 2 chains in rotation to extend cassette life - I actually have 3 new chains waiting to run with my next cassette and chain rings.
- remove rear wheel and wipe a rag through the cassette between the sprockets - remove if really bad and clean in turps followed by hosing and air drying. Add a bit of grease on the freehub to stop any squeaks.
- Usually you can just run a rag through the chainrings to clean, but again if they are really bad just remove the cranks and clean again with turps, hose off then air dry. Regrease before fitting.
- run a rag through the rear derailleur jockey wheels to clean grit off.
I find that things stay much cleaner when you don't lube the chain on the bike. Most of the time now I can swap the chain over with minimal cleaning of anything.
