just changed cassette & chain today(both XT) but when on first ride it seemed like a slip of the chain when pedalling in middle ring(mainly the 2&3 gears) & from when pushing hard on left crank!!!-is the middle ring too worn?

Sounds like it could be mate.

Did you readjust the rear derailleur to suit the new cassette?

Hop fiend's picture

is that to compansate fo wear?-as the ratios are the same as before(11-34) or could I have miscounted links on chain-would this affect it?

You're too powerfull!
Weaken up!

No just to compensate for the cassette maybe not sitting on the carrier exactly the same.
Miscounting the links shouldn't effect it unless it's way to long and not having any tension. If it's too short it won't go big big... but you shouldn't do that anyway

I recommend you buy a chain (stretch) gauge.
Since using my gauge I now change my chain roughly three times to me needing to replace the cassette and crank rings (mostly middle only these days).

As for your problem, duck down to pedals plus and grab a middle and granny front ring. Then a chain gauge Smiling

I'd also check gear cables for sticking. There may be fine grit or corrosion in the cables.
It's easy to replace them if in doubt.
I'd also replace the middle ring for peace of mind if I'm not buying a new bike.

new middle ring & no nore problems!!!
