Arik... I though I'd introduce myself since this is my first time here. I am pretty new to Sydney and entirely new to mountain biking in Sydney (or Australia for that matter) but I've been self propelling for years. I got my MTB shipped over here and I've become a little sick of just looking at it and thought its about time I figure out where to ride! I don't have a car, so if there are any suggestions or people riding within ride-shot of Chatswood I would love to know. I've heard Manly Damn is a good spot, looks like sort of a stretch to pedal on knobbies all the way there though... Anyway, this group looks pretty active so I hope to ride with some of you soon!

Thanks -Arik

-and just for fun, here's a particularly muddy shot of my ride, post race-

Hi Arik
Welcome
Depending where you are in Chatswood. Ride down Fullers/ Delhi road, cross the river, enter LCNP ride up the road, cross Ryde road, cross bridge enter Fire trail.
Most people live around the area and are quite happy to pick people up if needed.

Hi Arik,

The Cascades track is well within reach Chatswood. Catch the train to Turramurra (bikes OK out of morning peak time), then it's a transit stage over to Acron Oval. Plenty of quiet back streets to choose from. No need to ride on the busier roads (Mona Vale Rd, Pacific Hwy). Note: Location B = coffee stop.

From there, if you're wanting to extend your ride, it's 10-15 mins over to Manly Dam from Ralston Ave or you can cross over Mona Vale Rd for some single track and beyond to Terrey Hills.

On the way back (for an easier ride if you've done an epic) head to Pymble station via Boundary St. Tip: If you don't want to do the mother of all climbs, avoid Vista St.

Cascades is good if you like elevation change - it's a great spot to test your climbing legs.

Here's a couple of minutes of descending action on the fire road from Sunday:

Haven't ridden the Cascades before but that fire road looks tasty. Gonna have to give it a sneaky on the weekend if the weather holds off!

Anyone interested for a ride there this weekend? Probably early Saturday or anytime Sunday? Just putting a feeler out there...

Sunday would be good. Hi Andy I rode with you at Awaba the other week. I may be able to sneak out for a couple of hours on Sunday. Be warned it is hill city in there but what goes up............

Ah Awaba... loved that track but it broke me... took four days lying on my back to fix me after that ride... awesome track though.

I'd be super keen for Sunday and I promise to put more air in my tyres this time too! What time suits? I'll post a ride if I can figure out how!

Thanks for the replies. I ride through Lane Cove Park every morning (but on the roadie) so I guess its a matter of figuring out where to get the fireroad from. Definitely interested in Cascades too (is there any single track?). I'm gone this weekend but perhaps the next week folks would be into a ride.

@ Andy, 8am is good for me. Might be a bit wet but it is firetrail. Air in tyres is overrated! I am fighting off a cold but should be good - just getting my excuses out there early!

Ha ha to the cold... don't know if you remember me riding at the back at the pack at Awaba! Need to see how the weather holds up over the next 48 hours if it doesn't clear I don't fancy destroying the bike (or cleaning it!)

@Arikm... Cascades first weekend in June would be good if I can get a leave pass. Heading up to Ourimbah on the Sunday for the CCOMTB XC round (which I never done before). I'll keep you posted but if I can it'll have to be the Saturday morning... does that suit?
