So are we having a post ride BBQ down at Euroka? I'm happy to bring the 4 burner down.
Hey JP, you going SS or geared... I'm still undecided.. first half is great on the SS and after that it sucks. May be a decision on the day.
Dunno whether I will be BBQing, I suspect I will be rushing of home that day.
Can the BBQ. I have to head home straight after also.
I think I'll be 1x9ing it Mog. Climbing in a 32x17 is groovy, but spinning like an idiot from the helipad is not.
This is why I love my 3x9, ive got the granny to help with some climbs at the start and the I've got the big ring from the Heli pad to the finish. If I was to change it, it would be for a new 2x10.
Are there still entries going for this???
Yes.
Flying up to sunny Qld for a week.
Will probably cruise with the missus if i'm riding the Epic, she is making some very mysterious and bad noises, however if the new forks arrive and they are back together i will definitely try for a time!
Should be a fun day!
Ride the Scott and have a go ya blouse!
I thought you meant the missus was making some very mysterious and bad noises
And speaking of blouses
Jim, are you in Qld working on your tan
Yeah, mine's been doing that too. Just rang me to say the snow's getting heavier in Blackheath, the power's out, where do we keep the emergency candles, and why did she choose NOT to come down to balmy Sydney with me yesterday?
So yes, we're heading to the Sunshine Coast to work on our tans, drink their watery beer and rubbish their footy team.
I'll take a fine selection of blouses.
I can't see the start times for the categories in any email I have or on their site.
Think this is the train schedule Glenbrook-Woodford for Sunday AM.
Option Depart Arrive Travel time
1 8:53am 9:23am 30mins LATE OPTION
2 7:53am 8:23am 30mins BUSY OPTION
3 7:23am 7:53am 30mins EARLY OPTION
For this event, haven't they had a "No bikes on trains" rule and put on trucks and trailers to carry bikes? Otherwise the trains just can't cope with the number of riders.
Yeah I know they are borrowing our trailer again to help shuttle riders up from Glenbrook.
Personally I find it easier to park up at Woodford, ride down and catch the train back up.
If anyone wants a lift up from Winmalee/Springwood at about 0800 let me know. I can prolly pack 3 or 4 bikes in the back of the ute, though it won't be pretty! I'll park somewhere in Woodford and ride back up after proceedings.
Yeah they don't like bikes on the trains. We use the Shuttle Trailers from Glenbrook station. You have to catch an earlier train if you want to be in the Outright Contenders I think. I might ride 40-49, or just rock up later (more likley) for the "Other Socials" before the runners. I'll be helmet cam'ing it again, most likely rear end view (but-cam) so starting behind some slower riders can make for better footage anyway (more overtaking = gets good shots of riders from the front).
Start times and Brief Notes just came out.

I'd love a lift up the hill JP. I hate the ride up through Faulconbridge.
Is this a race or will there be fun police slowing everyone down?
@tate: there are no fun police, check out some of the past results
The need for speed will not be controlled. Apparently NPWS reckon the first riders will hit Euroka at 0940!
It'll be a good warmup. Hopefully I won't be stood around at the top too long as I'll be dressed for speed not comfort! Anyone have an idea how long a medium paced ride would take up to Woodford?
Also don't know yet if I'm racing open or old farts?(40+)
gazza, if i get a ticket, ill be keen to ride up from glenbrook too.
rob,
call me an idiot, but where can i find past results. and where is this euroka clearing? is the single track part included or do we turn off to head to the clearing before then?
Past results are here, well at least last years.
http://www.multisportaustralia.com.au/RaceTecRes...
I would love to find my early/mid 90's results somewhere.
And no single track, we turn off down Bennetts ridge trails and Euroka is at the end of that.
Just looking at the elite results for last year.
Elite Average 00:54:16 Fastest 00:41:50 Slowest 01:58:48
I came in just under the average time listed for elite last year, I expect then quite a few punters will ride up in the Elite/open. I would never have thought to run in the Elite/open start, but the thought of the more open track sounds good.
Will anyone here that ran these average times push into the Elite riders or sit back in their age categories??? .
That's the age old question (pun intended)
I'm wanting to go under my 54 minutes of the last 2 years (but had the flu, so I'm iffy)
But I don't think I'll go in the elites - it just doesn't sound right
1 year I started in a younger age group
it's only a problem if you 'podium' as i think it 'voids' your result
I'm gonna call it on the day
looking unlikely ill get a ticket. let me know if anyone cant make it and wants to part with theirs.
@tate - Check "J the B" "I'm Out" post above.
I was only 50/50 of being around for the race, so I didn't sign up.
Think I will go in my age group, 40-49. I'm going to helmet came it from the helipad down. It's always interesting overtaking on the outside/inside alternate line. Not that Hathill would ever know!!
Ahhh - so now the truth comes out. We'll never be able to trust you again Baptist
Forecast for Friday/Saturday/Sunday is for 3 beautiful, sunny winter days. Lows of 5-6 and highs around 17-18. Looks like a pearler of a day for the race.
The sledging has started, i'm gunna have a go and see if i cant leave a trail of bits and pieces of a specialized epic behind me, my god it needs some work on it!..it only need to last me until sunday and maybe a couple of days after that !
Looks like Ill be back on the old hardtail if I can get it off the brother in law - not looking forward to the cable brakes on some of the steeper sections. The front brake on the Roscoe will be visiting Mr Sram this weekend.
Just been up there this arvo, on my way back from riding Mt York( did i mention it was cold), and found out your news mate, i told them to look after you or else, so expect to be charged double and all your bolts will be done up finger tight!!!hehehe
Looks like I'll be getting a Head start in the 30-39s. So how far in before you over take me?
I'll be on a single speed so I am not too fast for the first bit, I may get you on one of the hills.... you will probably then take me again after the heli-pad?
What was your time Tim last year?
Don't forget to hit your lap button
http://nobmob.com/node/1979
1hr12min Mark
As for the Hot lap, I'll definetley be taking advantige of the gate being open
So whats the ruling on the where to hit the first lap buton? The Helipad is a large area
a helipad hot lap (or any hot lap for that matter) doesnt count if youre in a train!
Thats Ok, I wont be.
Funny you should mention that though as I have seen a result with a train mentioned. I dont want to go pointing it out. Cough..rob..Cough
Ive created a runkeeper race page for this event.

OK groovers see you all in the morning.
Any clues on fastest BMORCer?
Surely that's you JP!!
HMMMM, as much as I fancy myself as a man of speed when I dance around the house in my fluoro skinsuit, endurance is more my thing. Looking forward to a good toddle down the Oaks tomorrow.
If you're interested in seeing how your buddies here go, just come back here after the race and write a blog about it (a link will appear). You don't actually have to write much (anything?), just be sure to put in your time and hey-presto!... all the results will end up in a table above. Oh, and in the 'Race Results' tab on your profile too.
Awesome race, perfect conditions. Felt a little slower this year so interested to see the time, and the fastest BMORCer is....
Perfect day indeed! Great atmosphere, great company, and could've been topped off with a sausage sizzle but... Next year the ute is gonna packin' the 4 burner and for post race nourishment.
I have never ridden the oaks with sooooo many people. My midday sojourns have left me spoiled.
According to Beth, one guy came out with a leg injury and a chick with a rooted shoulder and chest and blood soaking through her head bandages! Hope they aren't too serious.
Top day. And the fastest BMORCer is... (I definitely would have podiumed if I didn't get a flat and have long cable ties throwing off my bikes Maserati-like handling).
So are we talking BMORC regulars or what? JayRay would have had a good showing, then Stephen. Hathill, Kingy(on his DH bike) etc following.
