I've just turned the rigid 29er SS into a 1x9. I kept the 32t front ring and bashguard and added one of these to stop inner chain jumping.

So far I've been down the Oaks singletrack, Yellomundee and the Grose Head singletrack with no chain issues whatsoever. With a long cage XT Shadow rear mech everything is sweet so far.

Contact him with the size you need and he'll send it out. If you like it you pay him, if not send it back. I got 2 of them for about $25.

They look ok I just need a smaller bashie.Other option is a widgit but 2 of those and a new bashie still cheaper.

I swear by the MRP 1.X chainguide for my 1x9 setup. I use a 32 up front with a short cage X9 out back. The short cage is a lot smaller and doesn't catch things and snap hangers unlike a long cage. It also makes for much snappier shifting.

The MRP 1.X is around $75 now and I have run one for nearly 2 years and very rarely drop a chain (unlike on a triple ring setup). I am not the most extreme rider but this works really well in all the terrain I have covered. It is also very lite, out of the way and requires no fidgeting once its on.

Thats something forgot about a short cage. You running a bb mount or seat tube mount 1x?

It looks like this and is bb mount.

Real simple to mount and set up. I converted a friends bike to this set up in around 30 minutes before going for a ride.

The short cage rear is a real bonus. The difference is huge to the amount of damage it receives, which is now virtually zero.

I also put on a DH or SS type ring at the front which I think holds the chain even a little better than a ramped ring... but that I may be imagining.

Also not having the 44T ring at the front means you get much better clearance over gnarly stuff and logs.

Cool got a e13 xcx coming got a short cage here off my old roadie and will more than likely go a 34t ss chain ring in a few weeks.

Those XCX are the more expensive E13 version of the same thing with i suspect a few extra bits of quality engineering. The MRP is really simple and works great but I can see how a few minor tweaks may make it fractionally better... the screw for one thing is a little iffy if you aren't careful.... I guess the E13 is the improved version.

I've got a 34T I am still to put on.... still on the 32T. Haven't run out of gears except on stuff like the end of the Oaks, but I pedal like a single speeder at high revolutions and I am happy enough. I still like that little bit extra for the long hill slogs so I keep the 32T.

Only 4 dollars difference over here and not much of a saving from overseas with freight.Yes I do tend to spin a bit higher and have had a bashie on so 32 been my large ring for a while.

Off work today as no power. So i fitted the e13xcx but the road/short cage rear is no good so have fitted a SLX shadow mid cage. Now to see how it goes.
