The Husky 100ker Take2
Callala Beach Road, Callala Beach, New South Wales
The tranquil waters of Jervis Bay and the township of Callala Beach play host to this classic mountain bike marathon. Only in its second year, "The Husky", as it is affectionately known, has gained wide spread accolades as the most enjoyable, laid-back and achievable marathon on the Australian MTB Endurance Calendar.
Nestled just two short hours from both Sydney and Canberra, THE 100K'er takes advantage of the great single track throughout the Currambene State Forest, the likes of Coondoo, Superbowl, and the Butterfly Track – as well as other fantastic trails in the area. The course provides a great contrast of beach and bush, a bit of sand, a bit of mud, and a whole heap of dirty bliss, all looping back to the start!
All great fun!

Does anyone know if we need to do anything to confirm that we are still in or is it assumed that you're in and you're entry simply rolls to the new date?

I can't believe how dry its been down there since the original race day and now as the new date approaches its getting smashed once again.

Less then a week and the weather is looking better then a few days ago
http://m.weatherzone.com.au/act/illawarra/jervis...
last year it was dusty on the fire trails and I still got wet feet at least 10 time walking through mud holes.
I've heard regardless of how dry it's been there are quite a few big puddles.
The things I remember from last year are log rolls, sweet sweet single track, eroded fire trails and lots of mud puddles. I was at the back of the field so most of the people I was with didn't try and ride the bigger puddles. Even walking round some of them was through ankle deep mud. Might try and ride a few more this year although hopefully there will be someone in front to test the depth.
just remember that a lot of those mud holes have had 4WD's churning through them, which means there are usually at least two deep wheel ruts under the water with narrow slippery ridges between them. Staying well to the side is advisable. I saw someone nearly otb last year when their front wheel almost went completely under water following the track line.

I actually just read the details of the 100 & 50. I didn't realise the 50ker does the last 40km of the 100ker. This means the 50ker riders will be coming through first which could make the 76km water stop busy. That is unless you can do the first 60km in about 2 hours
I remember trying to plough thru a waterholes last year - I bailed when the water hit the top tube - and that was after a mth on no rain preceding the race.
Bring the snorkel this year I reckon.
D
There will be some puddles, but there will certainly be a way of staying dry around the edge.
As a little tip to y'all, change gear before hitting the water / mud, instead of getting through or even half-way through, and then changing. Shift gears with a dry, non-muddy chain, and your drivetrain and race-speed will be maintained. Look to the exit of the puddle, and take a call on your 'exit' gear before you hit the wet.
Oh - and run the wet-lube on the chain. Even if the first 50km is dry as a bone, the wet lube will get home when the drivetrain is hurting at the end.
See you down there. Say hi. I cant wait - its a great field in the mens race, and I reckon the first 5 - 10 places will be seperated by very little time.
The bike is now ready and I can't wait.
So I'm staying at the Myola Tourist Park, anyone know familiar with the area know the closest place to get pizza for dinner? As you can see I play close attention to what I consume pre-race

I know I'm no beanstalk, but the puddles were so deep last year that my 'little fella' got his head wet in a couple of them.
Not doing it this year Phil? Wet willy turned you off?
Well something happened because if you compare his race report to his last comment its gone from a 'fire hose' to a 'little fella'
It happens to all of us .... Denial is strong in this one !
I was thinking it was just the excitement of the sub 6hr result
Maybe we start a poll - "How big is Phil?"
Eww , i am on the Wrong site .....
You guys are funny!
Sadly I'm not entered this year Too many lame excuses to mention here.
What are your lame excuses ?
....
Maybe they should have run the race mid week to catch the good weather as the forecast isn't looking good at all now.
GAZZA, you sure you can't get the crosser ready
It's only forecast a few showers
I'm just hoping if it is going to rain it starts in the afternoon because I'll have finished the 100 by midday
Gunning for a quick one Brian - go hard!
#Tip - Don't stop for a toilet break.
Good luck!
That's the plan or maybe I'm just trying to f@#k with peoples minds
Looking at the forecast, it looks like the chance of rain is now limited to a bit over Sat night. Hopefully just enough to settle the dust [fingers crossed]
Did two laps of the Dam last night and there's still a lot of standing puddles on the flat sections.
Brian, if i had that crosser, i'd be seriously thinking of using it! Have to pay it off first!
Apparently the trails are in awesome condition which sounds promising. Can't wait for Sunday morning

And the Rain may hold off down there or may just be a light shower if anything?
I'm tipping a beautiful day with some medals coming back to Sydney.
Mens 100km is anyones guess, Womens 1000km features Jenny's return from her operation and she's found her legs again recently in no uncertain terms.
The mens 50km has Garry Millburn installed as favourite, and he'll be a tough man to beat with his recent form.
I hope that everyone has the race they want, that mechanicals are kept at a minimum, and that crashes are few (you need some - for after race yarns).
See you on the startline, or for a pizza afterwards.
So the women are doing 10 laps of the 100
Doh!
I just added categories for your blogs

Seen the latest cycle nation rankings. Who is the star now Ants?
Yeah not sure how all that works but I'm now ranked 77 which I got to be happy about.
I think they are updating it throughout today.
Flemo should be leading it, and I should be in second, with James Downing in 3rd overall.
Currently Flemo only has 2 results included, and they are yet to include his Husky win. He was 4th or 5th (I think) at Cap Pun. 2nd at DW and 1st at Husky.
I'm looking for a top 5 overall, so sitting in 2nd with 2 races to go is a nice place to be.
I am not racing the Fling though, so I need one more ride at Bottlebut (to enable me to drop my poor ride at Cap Pun - mechanicals) and I should be ok.
Lets wait and see though. Lots of racing yet. Jason English will be hard to be beat at Bottlebutt, and Fling, so its certainly all up in the air still.
It will come down to riders finishing positions at the Fling. Expect some exciting finishes there....
As riders positions get updated I'm slipping out of the top 100 fast
Heres a report from the race. I notice they said there is over 2600m of climbing for the next round. Sounds like a tough day at Port Macquarie in 4 weeks.

Not a Bunch of us 'cheating!'
GAZZA, what bike were you on for this race?
After they sabotaged you they must have had second thoughts and put the signs back so the rest of us slower people could go the right way.
Borrowed from Mike Blewitt while he's racing in Europe for the summer, the lucky bugger!
Paul, I recon 'sabotage' is another word for 'shit course marking'
