Mud? What mud..
Already having one wet 100K DNF under my belt this year I was sooooo glad that I switched down to the 50 for this one.
Some fun bits but generally not a very enjoyable ride, the single tracks were a blast and I was constantly trying to make it more fun and enjoy the ride, but alas I never really found a groove and just couldn’t feel happy about trashing the bike and soon grew jack of catching the constant sliding into ruts and other bits that would end my day, I saw some stacks, was directly behind a synchronized high speed OTB (ouch!!) and had two myself.. so two stacks (one good one that I was lucky not to hurt anyone or myself) and a nice mud bath later I’m crossing the line in under 3 hours.
Sorry to the other riders that I took out with my high speed track exit and “surprise re-entry” (after missing a corner, hucking a log and bouncing off a tree).. but you probably already know that you were just too slow to start in that group and shouldn’t have been there anyhow
The good thing about a 50K is that there’s no real need for a nutrition plan, just grab a few gels and ride!
Well done to the 100 riders that started, super top effort to the finishers, you had the right idea as this track would be 100K of "absolutely awesome" in the dry!
