*** Update 30/7 ***

Just had a fun weekend of moving house and no play. I haven't had a chance to go back to Lane Cove - I actually used to do this track heaps before I met the NoBMob. So we will do Terry Hills and then I'll promise to do Lane Cove this sunday. If you're interested in a Sat 4th or Sun 5th Aug morning tour let me know All I wanted to do was to check out the end of one section of this track to see that the fallen trees were removed cause without this section it's an ordinary trail.

Hi Everyone,

Just getting the regular night ride up for this week. New people are always welcome

Most of us have done Terry Hills a lot and I noticed there was a few of us looking for a track somewhere different. My most local track is Lane Cove - you start near the east side of Comenarra Parkway and from there you can work your way towards Thornleigh all in firetrail and a bit of singletrack, as a bit of warning if you think the Parkway is hilly then the firetrail is even more hilly. I will check it out on the weekend and if its passable, in one area it wasn't due to the storms a few months ago. Its an up and back track and I'm not sure if there is a pub close by.

Are you keen to do this track?

collins Terry Hills Twilight ride Well, It was a struggle on the first ride with a group in a while. Robbo hung back and helped me through it. Felt good to finish.

Were you there and have a story to tell?

Word is that LCNP is a top ride... aside from the obvious, "Don't ride any trail first time at night" concerns interest level is high Smiling

...with Rob about the first ride in a new place being a day one unless we have a guide not so much from a danger point of view but more so if we get lost and run out of light ;-(

I'd need to take 12 beers in that case, Aye christine Eye-wink

If you stick to the fire trails, you'll be fine. The whole region is quite close to suburbia. You'll keep popping up on streets. I did it for the first time by myself at night:

ON the MTB OZ forum, they posted a message saying 'Lane cove ride tonight, usual place"
Of course, I had no idea what the usual place was, so I emailed them - no reply.

So, I took my bike, and drove around for a bit - no sign of any bikers.
I found a trail and rode around the network for a couple of hours. I got lost heaps of times, but lost as in 'I don't know where I am' rather than lost as in 'I don't know how to get back to civilisation. I kept coming up onto all these streets I didn't know. (later determined to be around pennant hills and the commenara parkway)

The second time I did it was after rain at night. I was using a 5 watt light, and got a nasty surprise when I hit a creek crossing and found the water at my waist!

Word on the street is that the firetrails have recently become quite a bit smoother : http://forums.farkin.net/showthread.php?t=86440&...

and ready for the pub afterwards...
Totally agree with Rob and Greg about riding the trail for the first time at night - would rather do it first in the day..although...the lure of lots of beer could sway us...
just joking!

Nice pace, bit too much road work though... pub made up for that I guess! Sticking out tongue

Cowan is a very nice break from Long alone, I like it... must try it sometime in daylight Eye-wink
