Stromlo and Majura Pines Apec long weekend
Hello all, due to a recent discovery of getting the apec long weekend off, im going to head down to canberra to finally check out the trails, especially the Stromlo DH now its open! and also majura pines, and if time/legs permit maybe sparrow hill too. My current plan is to go down on the fri, do stromlo, then do majura on the sat, and come back sat eve...or sunday morn if totally dead!
if anyone else is keen to go too, your more than welcome! accomodation wise ill be planning a motel room for myself and a mate or 2 for the sat, if anyone has suggestions please let me know, i dont know anything about canberra's bike friendly accom!
Like i say all welcome, just a cruisey explore and a bit o fun, not training for anything or anything, and hopefully if they still do the fireworks thing down there we can blow some sh&^ up with a few beers after too
Cheers, Alex

Good luck with the Stromlo DH, that is some seriously crazy jumps there chief! Have fun!
Around the lot of em!
Goatman I don't understand your post. Some people will rock up to these jumps with no idea of a B line and think the A line is the only option. They will therefore either land it or go to hospital, either way very character building.
As a Curly boy I'm sure you understand this principal.
+ c and d lines on the big ones
My good man, people should always stop and check out unfamilar lines when riding a track for the first time, particularly when it is the National DH track.
My 12 year old son (who is fairly new to Mtn Bike) was able to ride 95% of it on his hard tail.
Hell even you can ride it Jedi !!
Being your son he is obviously half man/half goat.
As for me, I'm not 100% sure if I could ride it. What is the cafe situation?
even ride it on a modified road bike (just ask Alchemist)

Is he a Curly boy too then??
And the bigger A lines are closed off when the track is not being used for racing.
Did you ride the top rockgarden on that thing?
I get it now... you guys are like a good cop/bad cop educational team. You say fnark it, jump without a look, he says, no, no, always read the label.
Very amusing!
FWIW, the skill in MTB is picking the right line, first time, at race speed, and not crashing!
Nah, I ran the first little one and then took the B-line on the big one, all the rest of the course was riden. With so much dust on the course and a slickish tyre on the rear I thought it better to stay off those rocks. I'm looking forward to seeing some photos of me on the top section.
I agree with you for general riding Rob but in DH racing no.
The skill is taking it all in, planning ahead and remembering it.
If you've ever seen any of the top DH guys practicing their first run is always slow and often only after they've pushed up and had a good look from as many perspectives as they can.
When your hate rate is 225 and things are going read it's not the best time to be picking a line on speck
Renny's first run in particular is always super slow. he stops at each obstacle and will spend several minutes watching how other riders hit it. he takes it all in and starts planning his race run. He then starts his practice runs getting faster each one. He puts it all in his head and talks about playing it all back like a vidoeo in his head, only his visulisation has sound, feel, smell... The track and every possible line is stored in case of changing conditions.
I've walked section track with Mick Hannah. Two days before the race he was saying, A rut will generate there... that rock will be more exposed... Take the high line let the back end slide, when it hit the rock it will straighten me up and set me for that next corner....
When fractions of seconds count. you need to have it dialed. For example we had a clubbie up here where the first 4 were within 0.8 seconds of each other. also when the consequence of stuffing up is a world of pain it's best to have a look first.
Yeah, should have been obvious that was a bit tongue in cheek. Sorry, but, durh!
Thats one of my favorite types of riding.
new trail Flat out.. test the reflexes and hope for the best
stop hijacking my thread about lines lol
nah i dunno i just want to explore what are meant to be some awesome trails, and have some fun! if the jumps and drops are too big, ill go around them, if the course is too crazy altogether, i guess ill be walking some sections, either way, it'll be a blast!
