I hope the trail gods keep smiling till then... You know what i mean.
The wind should go a long way to help dry out the track too.

Sorry - Work plans have changed and I'll now be in NZ for Wednesday night. Maybe the following week - at least the trails are drying out for you. Have fun.

hmm maybe Hans, I just need to check what I have on the next morning.

This is my first night ride, as most times these rides are up, I am busy with school, and I want to go on this as the final ride to my holidays. My lights are fairly average, and I hoped that would be all right if others had strong beams.

@Tristania

If you need some lights, I can lend you one spare Ayup for the bars. Just call me ahead of time.

Lets just hope the weather cooperates.... Smiling

Hans,
I really do wish you would stop posting night rides, every time you do it rains

Smiling

thats funny!

Hans's picture

Yes, agreed.

BOM just called - I'll have a major influence on the weather....:

Considering joining you tomorrow if not raining. just joined your forum

Haven't riden in more than a few moons [read many moons], is it suitable for a neewbie with little to no night lights and an ancient but still functioning cannondale ride?

Or am I just asking too much of the mountain bike gods?

please advise
Stevan

I think it will be washed out. Tristian, you can borrow my Ayups one day/evening to try them out if you see a night ride you want to go on. Terry Hills makes for one of the best, but Sand and water is a nasty mix.

I have a council meeting to go to Wed night and I hope we will be clapping and cheering after the decision, not coming out disappointed. I'm not religious but if somebody wants to say a little prayer, burn a candle or sacrifice a virgin (or a lamb, or a virgin lamb, or a virgin lamb with a candle) on an altar, or draw a massive pentagram or something... if you think it will help, well, GO FOR IT!

Council will vote on the recommendation to start construction at Old Man's Valley. Meeting starts 6:30pm.

too much of the mountain bike gods, given the sound of the rain currently pelting down on the tin roof over our sun room. Ha, now that in its self is a joke around Sydney at the moment.

Stevan, I would suggest that with this current rain, on the back of how wet the trails were on the weekend, this ride will now be cancelled.

I would also suggest that you have your own lights before you venture into the realm of night riding. If you're not sure you'll like it then borrow some from a mate before you buy. If you like it and you're strapped for cash then there are cheap alternatives to the expensive branded lights. Have a read through this thread for some good links

Maybe as part of our humanitarian effort, we should sponsor Hans to go to South Effrica and organise a few night rides over there?

We'll get some dry rides, and their drought will be over.

Win/win Eye-wink

1 I am sorry.. the likelihood = 95% that I won't turn up for this night ride.. Sad

2 it's Dostoevsky time - the only thing that's worth doing in the miserable little rain - reading one of his works..

3 I support Hawkeye's constructive idea to send off Hans to some remote dry place.. maybe mtb gods have been asking for this sacrifice..

SVL8's picture

Sounds like great advice. I may invest in some generic lights and join you when Hans goes to Sth Efrica.

Tristania's picture

The weather looks crap for tomorrow, even so, the trails are already soaked.

Also, Noel, I'll probably see you at the council meeting tomorrow evening, I've been asked to talk on behalf of my school about the need for the tracks to be built.

The fact that TH has had 50mm over the last 24 hours you can guarantee this ride will be cancelled.

kitttheknightrider's picture

more like 50mm in a little over 12hrs.

good luck tonight Noel. (and how does your post appear before mine when it was posted 2 minutes later? The force really is with you)

Hans's picture

Sydney weather sucks at the moment. But there are good things about all the precipitation, too....

I took the crew to the Snowies instead ....and we had the best season of skiing/boarding in 10 years - with 180 cm of snow cover.

We may as well go back there tomorrow to carve the fresh powder Smiling

I'd rather be skiing!

Noel's picture

Tristian, I've got the phone number here (for registering to talk) somewhere if you need it. I think it would be great if you talk. 2 minutes is the limit apparently.

See you there, I've got a cold so I'll try not to sneeze or cough on anybody.

Black Flash's picture

I just hooked up some new lights to my Cannondale Carbon Canoe. Even has a full XX paddletrain! It's the new tubeless version! And in case of emergency has life jackets under my seat, with a light and whistle for attracting attention....

Tristania's picture

Yeah, could you msg me the # to my message box. I didn't realize you had to register to talk.

kitttheknightrider's picture

Well done Tristan, I believe you were quite impressive, and everyone else involved.

Great result, lets see how quickly things move forward now that you guys have won approval
