Shimano XT brake caliper service parts

After cleaning my bike in the wake of today's decidedly damp Manly Dam ride, I discovered I have a sticky piston in my rear brake caliper.

I figured I might as well do a full service and replace the piston seals, but have drawn a blank in my web searches.

Was also wondering where to get the 5-sided driver to get the alloy insert out of the one-piece caliper so I can get the pistons out to clean the bores.

Any clues? Puzzled

Interesting isn't it Hawkeye - obviously completely re-buildable but good luck getting any parts.
Shimano just does not want to sell them to you and would rather have you shell out for a new one instead.
(That said, they are bloody reliable and I know I will get flamed here but they have a better seal design and overall quality than current (read Elixir) SRAM brakes in my experience.

just some brake disc cleaning fluid & pull the lever , see if that works-thats what a good bike store told me to do to my LX disc brake calipers

Hey Hawkeye, if your piston isn't stuck but just lazy, take pads out & fold up a business card & place between pistons then squeeze slowly till pistons are most of the way out. Business card should just be thick enough to stop pistons coming out too far. Then wipe a very thin smear of brake fluid on walls of the pistons. If that doesn't work do your full service thingy.

For part #

Just find your model and click on the PDF link. At least then your LBS can ring shimano with the right info. Then hope that they have it in stock.

Use mineral oil if you go with the suggestion above. Shimano don't use brake fluid and the seals are not desisgned to cope with it.

You can get a Tamper-proof torx head set from Auto Barn or jaycar. Great for roof racks too.

This looks very similar to my Torx T8 or T10 screwdrivers I have. Do they make Torx any bigger? The Brown Hornet is definitely on to something. I bought my set from a computer store to pull apart my laptop.

Business card should just be thick enough to stop pistons coming out too far. Then spray disk brake cleaner on ear bud and clean around piston then carefully push back in repaet a few times and they should come good, this is what my local LBS suggested and it worked for me.

I've got a T40 here and it's too small. Just had time to look at the techdocs, it doesn't list a seal kit.
