Average age of mountain bikers
Does anyone have any statistics on the average age of mountain bikers on the Northern Beaches, greater Sydney and NSW. I am sure there are some stats around?
The Warringah Survey made me think of this?

I don't know where the stats would be but you could always do a poll on here.
Over 40 I reckon.
Amy ideas/tips advice om how we could do one? Would be interesting?
One was done here

The previous results were very typical and similar to the data we used in our Oxford Falls PoM submission, see page 8.

When writing this report we stated this but referenced Brisbane City Councils survey as it was independent and may appear more credible.
I expect over time the total numbers will be similar in the under 35 age group and that the older age groups will fill up as riders get older. Age is no barrier and the current profiles are more likely due the timing of when bikes got good and affordable resulting in the current bulge in the under 35 group.
A number of retirees are also starting to ride. My dad for example was here for his 60th, while here he rode a mtb for the first time and only walked a few times at Manly Dam. Gave him a full facer and armour and he had a ball! Had a few stacks but got back on and had up to 3 goes to clear some lines. Mum complained he wouldnt shut up about it the whole way back home on the plane and it was the best part of the holiday.
I have been riding Northern Beaches trails now for 12 months and an avid NOBMOB supporter. Great Website! I am am in my mid 30's and love riding.
I generally see guys and girls riding around my age and older. I do not see as many young people.
The recent Warringah website had some interesting questions including, AGE, Income and other statistics that I did not think were entirely relative. yet was interested on the ages of riders?
I love the sport and wish I got into it earlier and hope I will continue to ride for a very long time. Thats all!
=)
42 and still going strong.
28. I have to say I see all ages out there riding.
... but then I'd have to keel you

I'm 40. I feel that trail riding has a slightly higher average age, maybe due to mortgage fear or the likes. The more extreme end of mtbing is primarily of a younger average age.
Oh yeah. II love Jeff Dunham and have 2 of his videos.
Closer to to 60 than I'd like to be but then again who gives a shit as long as your having fun

I always said I'd still be riding when I'm 60 I just didn't know it'd be MTB'ing
Been a while since I have been to Kiwarrak. Looks like a whole lot more shore stuff, has been erected. Although not to my taste/fear level, I would like to get up there again as I enjoyed riding it, last time.
of everyone that rides as some people dont race, the DW entry list had large numbers in Vets/Masters/Super masters, however the Open category had fairly small number if I recall.
I would suggest this would give you strong evidence to the average age of a MTBer imo.
By the sounds of things, it looks like the average age of MTB'ers is going to be 30+.
Thanks for your replies on this one.
And generally the trend on nobmob is the older you get the faster you ride
the older you get, the faster you were........
So what happens if you were *never* fast?
You just get old
...as the actress said to the bishop !
Or may be it just seems that way
Unless your handle is Whisperer, in which case you really do get faster...
Maybe my engine was stronger when I was younger.....
...let's just says this was my first 'orange' bike: '74 Bultaco Sherpa 350 cc Spanish Made Custom Trials Bike @ 89 kg's....
I miss it ....
An old schoolmate back in Germoney restored it and still rides it regularly....
if you wanted to ride slow Although it was a two-stroke, so it can't have been real good.....
I owned one of the first model Honda XL 250's at that time. Now there was a bike.....
