Need Help - Stripped one bolt on rotor
Hi,
I was trying to remove my rotor and managed to strip the one bolt
Any suggestions would be much appreciated, or any help happily accepted (I am in Lane Cove but happy to travel).

as in stipped the star head?
Very carefully hacksaw a slot across the head so you can use a flat bladed screw driver.
If it's too tight for the screw driver drill off the head (5.5-6mm drill bit). Once the head is removed you can remove the rotor and now that there is no force on the bolt you should be able to grab the end with a set of multigrips and it should be reasonably loose

Hi. You have 3 different courses of action to remedy the situation:
1. Cut a slot in the head of the bot you had stripped (thanks Flinny). However if this was glued in place with Loctite, you may want to get an impact screwdriver and give it a whack to break the thread free when you try and release it....... If that does not work....see step 2.
2. For some more $$$'s you can get reverse direction drill bits, and attempt to drill a sufficient hole in the head of the bolt to insert an "easy Out" thread extractor.....However most of the time, the action of using a reverse thread drillbit is sufficient to break the thread free and get the bolt turning.
3. If 2 did not do the trick, then for even more $$$'s, insert an easy out a hope like hell that your hole in 2 was big/deep enough and hope for the best.
That's about all that can be done for a situation like this....Good luck!

I had a stripped hex bolt holding my brake lever on the bars I needed to remove

I went to bunnings and got some, the young bloke at bunnings said they were not that great, but got the
bolt out first go. I highly recommend
I generally find that the act of cutting or drilling the bold head is sufficient to melt the low strength thread lock type loctites.
Get people coming in all the time with this exact problem. best case scenario is the screw driver slot works. This is probably 80%.
Worse case scenario, none of the above works and you need to drill the bolt right out and re tap the hole with a helicoil. I've had to do this once.

also get yourself a torque wrench to avoid this in future
you would be surprised you dont need to tighten things til you give yourself a hernia.

From my experience bolts and screws are very soft on bikes, even with correct torques you will wear and strip most Allen key heads and Phillip heads within a few tightens.
I have gone through and replaced most bolts on my bike with high tensile Zinc coated ones as they last a lot longer and you can get that little extra torque on them if it is needed to stop thing moving around.
You can get most bolts from your local hardware or a bolt specialist, very cheap too.
Highly recommended.
The few allen head bolts that I have rooted have been removed easily by selecting a drill bit of a comparable size and drilling until I get some bite, then reversing the drill. On every occasion the bolts have unwound. Should work on torx heads too.
Another vote. Mine gets used just about every time I work on the bike.
Things don't fall off, nor do they get stripped out any more. Zinn's book lives in the workshop - the torque table in the appendices is very handy.
