Replacing Jockey Wheels

Hey everyone. I've got a xt r.d. and i need to replace the jockey wheels on it. Just wondering where to get jockey wheels and which ones i should get? BTW can i use any sram jockey wheels instead of shimano?

I had to replace mine the other day. You should go into a good LBS and physically show them the jockey wheel. I had an X7 d.r. and the X7 jockey wheels weren't the correct ones, they had changed the design since. The ones that matched were the XO's.

The jockey wheel itself is easy to remove. Just take into the shop and visually see which ones matches yours best. Also, you will get two wheels; one for upper and one for lower. And they are marked this way so you can tell them apart.

Shimano do standard ones but I like the Token ceramics personally.

Sram have an offset bolt hole in the top jockey wheel so you can't use them. Grab a set of BBB rollerboys if you don't want to spend too much. They have a sealed cartridge bearing in them instead of bushings and are around $20-25. You can get them for both shimano and sram.

If you wat to spend a bit more get a set of KCNC ones from ride industries on Ebay. You can get them in a variety of colours, they are alloy and you have the choice of SS or ceramic bearings.

+1 for BBB rollerboys. Have them on both my bikes. They roll so much better than the rubbish ceramic or metal bushings.

Didn't know they made an offset-bolt-hole version for the lower level SRAM RD's. Might have to go investigating for hawkeye junior's bike ...

I've got 05 X0 and a mate had 05 X9 that had the offset hole. It probably has changed now but it is a pain in the backside trying to get them. I ended up getting X7 ones from wiggle to get the X9 going. X0 is still good.

Thanks for the help with the jockey wheels, ill give them a try. Now! My r.d. cage looks a bit skew BUT! its not bent im quite sure of that, it almost looks like theres a loose screw because when i push the cage with my finger towards the wheel it aligns perfectly straight with the rear cassette.

Does anyone no if there a screw or something i can adjust to get the cage to pull straight?

The pictures not that clear but you still get the gist...

It's just the derailleur cage pivot bush in the derailleur body that's flogged out letting the chain tension pull the cage out of alignment. My 2010 Anthem is the same. If only the derailleur body bushing area was a bit longer internally in those XT's, it would have a lot more support and consequently, life. I was looking at machining something up to fit into the body to provide more bearing area. Wouldn't be that hard for someone handy with a lathe. BTW, with that much wear, you'd be better of getting a whole new rear mech - they were $69 + post on CRC recently.

I assume the alignment would cause a lot of unnecessary were on the cassette and rest of drivetrain. Is there anyway you can avoid the bushing giving in besides not use the bike?

Now choosing a r.d. Which one do i get, like i have no idea between the differences in rapid rise, shadow, long cage, short cage :S
