Red Hill
I'm probably a bit better than an intermediate rider, do you reckon this trail would be possible for me. I can do manly dam well but the page says its pretty technical. Also are there any jumps? could you recommend a place with many jumps and singletrack?
Thanks

Red Hill is a cracker, good place to test your abilities at any level....though with all the rain it will probably another good month or so before it will be rideable again
That sounds good, i might be going for a ride there soon . . .
I'm also looking for a weekend ride preferably a trail that has jumps (not too big) rather than a park. Would you suggest hitting a downhill track (i've got a hard tail) or would this be a bit too big.
Thanks for your help
+1 for riding at Red Hill. Yes, anyone can do it, even on a hard tail, and there is nothing there that you must be jumping off. Having said that, there is certainly many ultra-technical sections that would test riders on a DH rig. Must suggestion would be to ride there, after it has dried up a bit... but take some arm and knee armour if you have it. It will really save your bacon.
haha sounds good, hopefully we won't get any more rain, would it be good for the weekend if it didn't rain all week?
if you want to enjoy your ride then red hill won't be rideble for weeks, but if you don't care about your bike or enjoy lots of clay based sandy mud then go ahead and ride it as it's not like your going to do my damage to the trails up there that the moto guys haven't already done.
Red Hill could be the premier mountain bike trail in the Sydney basin.
Unfortunately though it is a massive sponge made of clay. It sucks up every drop of water that falls on it and then over a period of months slowly releases it back out. Weeks after rain there will still be places where water is freely flowing over the trail.
To see the degradation and erosion due to the enormous amounts of rain and the fact that no matter what the weather the motorbike heroes are up there constantly with no limits as to where and how they ride is heartbreaking. Even had to show a couple of them how to get out of there a few weeks back after they got lost!
The trails there are now in the worst condition I have ever seen them. Even some of the relatively unknown little pieces of single track are being ridden to pieces.
I live right on the doorstep of Red Hill and have ridden there off and on for over 30 yrs and still love it, but at the moment given a choice will jump in the car and drive to Ourimbah where they know how to build and maintain a mountain bike trail. With the added bonus of NO MOTORBIKES.
Buck up, buttercup. It ain't that bad. Get a road bike and you won't have to worry about the degredation caused by dirt bikes...Red Hill is still better than plodding around Manly Dam with the masses...
Referering to the second question in the forum, would you be able to recommend a single track or firetrail with nice jumps along the way?
Please dont fight on my forum
Sorry 'bout that. My bad.
Where do you live? If you can drive north, you'll enjoy Ourimbah.
Otherwise, you're welcome to come for a ride with OldandSlow and I
I live in Cammeray so Ourimbah would be a day trip but I am dying to try it out soon! I probably won't be out riding for a while but thanks for the offer, I've done Manly Dam many times so I'm looking for a new singletrack ride and redhill, cascades and mona vale are high on my list
Big step up..... big drops big jumps.
Now that I'm living out west can't rate Lake Parra highly enough. Not a big loop but bloody fun nonetheless
haha sounds great, another place on my long list. . . .
Hear your pain re: red hill. A sustainable solution there is one of the things we are working on.
Let us know if there is anything we can do to assist.
Would be happy to help. As would others I know.
Cheers
Too right, oldandslow. We stand as one, brother.
Now you're creeping me out !
you 2 dudes are hilarious!
