Anthem X colour schemes
Nov 2010 I sold my soul to get an Anthem X3. Although only entry level she's been a lovely bike. I've loved riding her around Manly Dam, Cascades, Red Hill & so on. But recently, I discovered a massive crack. No problem. Lifetime Frame warranty. Off it went back to the LBS where I purchased her. Replacement was approved by Giant except that they didn't have a replacement X3 frame. I was offered an upgrade to the X2 frame. Who? What? The bike is merely 8 mths old ? I now have to have a Grey red frame with mismatched blue & white bits from my X3. That was really gay....not that there is anything wrong witn that but I wasn't particularly pleased with the prospect. Since the frame is Identical I figured that I may as well try to get the rear R2 shock with it to make it a real upgrade. Giant wasn't budging. No rear shock upgrade. I was devastated. Lost my temper with the local LBS too.
I also had a choice to go for a X1 which is white as well as more suitable to transfer parts across to make it look respectable. But there would be a time delay for that......great!
Eventually I just caved in & settled for the X2 in grey red.
But days turned to weeks..... then When I was harassing the LBS they said ohh yes they are now sending a 2012 X1 for us since the 2011 X2 was also ...not avail. yea sure. I just want to ride my bike.
Last week I rang up for a progress report. Nothing in sight. well call you back. I figured. I'll get the bike when I get it. If its not ready for the state Xc I'll be upset. If its still no ready for the scott 24 in October....I'm going to assassinate someone.
This week I ring Up. Ohh yes something has arrived. Not what we expected But its beautiful. Its black with white decals on it.
I'm thinking OMFG.....thats the version avail in various OS makets ......It was never avail in the Autrlaian market. My heart started throbbing in my pants.....
dropped everything & raced down to the LBS to check it out.
She is beautyful. Black frame white/ silver decals. I'm tickled pink.
I pick her up tomorrow. I cant wait.
There are slight differences in the frame. Main pivot & bottom pivot are black instead of black crome. Decals are more silver than white. But overall very very similar. So it makes me think.....perhaps its a new 2012 colour for the Australian market?
The one in the picture is the X1 2011 in the US market. X2 2011 in the European Market. but never avail in Aus/NZ markets.
I'm just exited I'm getting my bike back.

so, good things do come to those who wait. may i ask where on the frame the crack was, as i have recently purchased an x2 and would like to keep an eye on these things?
Joint at the top tube & seat post. Cracked just behind the weld.
I have an '09 X1 and it is a sweet ride, for what it is. A very fast racing XC steed. Mind you, it feels very sharp and twitchy when pointed downhill or at anything too bumpy.
turns out she's a Anthem X1 2012. the old forks retrofitted into the Overdrive2 and all is well.

I like that better than the chrome and blue of the 2011 model.
I saw an Anthem at the Husky where the top tube had completely come away from the seat tube. Who said Giant's don't break.
I just went through the same thing with my cannondale where the frame had cracked but they eventually came through with the goods. Still took 2 months though.
There was a recall of Anthems.

I was with someone today who broke the right-hand chainstay. It broke clean through on the weld near the linkage mechanism. He was riding up an incline and it made a loud crack. He was riding a Trance 3.
The recall Macr mentions is/was for the 29ers....and was sorted. When you read feedback it seems frames were replaced promptly.
This did not include the standard 26" Anthem X though. It would have been great to get the same treatment as the 29ers got.
Things break occasionally. I know this from my own industry. Just because something breaks. doesn't mean its automatically a bad product. The problem occurs in the supply line & communication. This is where the tempers rise occasionally. This is also where disappointment & resentment could be avoided.
For me, I'm tickled pink with the replacement frame.
Maybe you could credit the LBS that eventually got you sorted and on a great new (2012) frame with no cost to you?
This is why I stick with Giant, Life Time Warranty on frames!!!
Giant's service is also great in South Africa. I broke my 2007 Anthem X1 in March, two weeks before the Absa Cape Epic. Offered a replacement frame or 35% off a new 29 Anthem X1; which I took!
Stuff breaks. I did about 14 000km on my Anthem before it broke. This included several stage races where she out performed me every time!
If have been off the bike for a while, I sometimes just walk past her and stroke the seat... Now that is love.
