Just as long as I don't win the time off bike category. But i must be a contender for that one given my recent form. I hope this one doesn't go as long as your 7 weeks. The pain's one thing, but the time off bike is a whole other torture- as we all well know.

ive got the time off the bike category. injured on the 7th of september. wont be back on the bike till the new year. soon be putting up the jump bike, downhill bike and bmx up for sale. a few jumps just aint worth the time off the bike.its only been four weeks now and im going crazy. gonna put the money towards a specialized enduro so i can still have a bit of fun!

mate its a shame to see this happen but your totally right, time off the bike hurts. we should think about getting some training sorted as my expected recovery is around the same time frame. can't wait till the new year, bring on 2008!

for what its worth gazza, dont let your injury put u off downhilling if u can, i know its hard not to see it as totally not worth it, but the likely hood of anything like that happening again to you is very slim (provided you stay away from road gaps and such like!), and its so rewarding, and was good to see you getting into it so much and excelling so quickly, (perhaps a bit too quickly for your own good Eye-wink) i for one found it inspirational to see, and from my angle its great to see people channeling their energies into things like that, instead of going and trashing themselves in far more harmful ways!, anyways my 2 cents!

when you get back on the bike, or do it like me, a fairly quick 90min ride last night with my son then down the highway and back up The Oaks this morning and as you might expect my hunger for some mtb was well satisfied by the time I hit Woodford, so much so that I had to have a little Nana nap, I'll do something a bit flatter tomorrow.
Make sure you boys do some physio early, I couldn't as my collarbone didn't knit for quite a while and I now I am struggling to get my shoulder to work.
John.

John i couldnt agree with you more. I've had a few friends that have had exactly the same problems as you've described, will be going asap!

mate, thanks for the concern but ive been racing downhill on and off since 1989(18 years) ive had loads of crashes and broken bones even( most of them lower arms and wrists) what im getting at is that give me a certain kind of bike and ill eventually try and push myself to really test the thing so by getting rid of any temptation i eliminate or at least minimise another accident like this one and at my age( knocking on 40s door) i dont bounce like i used to! i want to enjoy mountain bike riding and by cutting down the risks helps me ride more and sit at home with broken bones less( well at least thats the plan!)i did mention that im getting rid of some of my bikes for a six inch travel bike.thats hardly putting on the slippers and igniting the pipe so to speak is it now. watch this space!

Injuries and time off bike hurt, but I must admit, also part of the attraction. Most blokes my age swing a golf club, ride a longboard or do no exercise at all. How cool is it to hurtle through the bush just one mistake from anguish. I'm just sorry it took me over 40 years before I discovered it- but better late than never as they say. Luckily my sister in law is a sports physio.
