Bairn Track

I was on Bairn Track yesterday and there was track work in progress. The trail was a mess with track tread marks all over the trail, crushed bed rock strewn every where, torn tree roots and damage everywhere. The sand and mud was disturbed and water running across the trail seemed to be cutting new paths.

What is the point of all of this? I rode the trail a few weeks ago and it was fine and in very good condition. Am I missing something?

I've noticed Savalation tracks, etc. getting a work over by NPWS too, they are probably doing this to every trail along West Head Road then.

I guess they must do this ever so often so vehicles can still get down there.

Trails in Garigal are being cleaned up for the summer season by NPWS.

Due to the amount of rain this year many of the trails have become washed out and are not in great condition to get a 13700KG Cat1 tanker down. As a result we have been requested in strong terms not to use any of the trails all winter. At about this time every year NPWS would be checking these vital access routes and where necessary repairing them.

This is going to be especially important this year as the huge amount of rain we have had over winter has led to high fuel loads, and has hampered efforts at running hazard reduction burns with many important ones still on the list.
