What's a good light kit suitable for riding in the bush at night for around $300 - are there any? Just can't justify the $500 or so for a new set of ayup's but really want to do some night riding - damn Perth & their no daylight savings rubbish.
Any help will be appreciated - see my note in the wanted classifieds if you've got any
Cheers,
Phil

Quote philarnott " damn Perth & their no daylight savings rubbish."
It's one thing to have an opinion but there's no need to insult the majority of Western Australians.
Yeah, on the whole it wasn't us Perthite's anyway, it was the damn "Any change is evil" folk who brought up everything from confused cows at milking time and kids that wouldn't know when to sleep to the bleaching of window blinds...
Understand & agree with your sentiments though & think that the statement was tongue in cheek. I loved having that extra hour to ride or canoe in the evenings.
Australian and on sale $143 with helmet mount 1000 lumen code required. XMASS2011 for this deal. Last ages i have on complaints. Bought one for bars and one for helmet.
check it out, lots of different options. Chinese made but sold from the ACT. Super quick delivery and cheap to boot!
Hey I am selling this http://nobmob.com/node/33153 after a recent upgrade.
I got one of these for 900 lumen numbers for $80 (I think that special expires today) and a 1300 for $120 and they have been great in 24hr events and general night rides. Not the best in the world but for the money they're great

I would have thought if you were into night riding, not having daylight saving would be a good thing?
I've got 2 of the 900 luman ones from cell bikes, just wondering if worth an upgrade to the 1300? Do they use the same batteries?
scored 1400lumen...cant wait to use this next year....see me later
It uses a bigger version of the same battery to give a decent burn time but you can use the 900 batteries if you want to save weight and only need a couple of hours burn time. The unit has three of what looks to be the same LEDs the 900 uses but the reflector isn't as efficient as focusing the beam which I guess is why it's not three times as bright (plus they probably run them at a lower current). The unit is bigger and heavier and sometimes needs re-aiming during a ride as it's getting knocked off line.
In short it's definitely brighter with a larger spread and makes a better bar light with the 900 as matching head lamp. Would I upgrade one of your 900's to a 1300, probably not. Personally I'd get a 3rd 900 so you can have 2 on the bars with different aiming points and the 3rd on your helmet.
I did nite lights for helmet (if you only get one do that) good enough. Then I put one on the handle bars.
They had xmas special of $143 with the code XMASS2011 (don't know how long that was going for) 1000 lumen - plenty bright enough.
