knowing shimano, there wont be a weight listed, they like to keep that info to themselves, just like giant,
I reckon .... take a good crap (squeeze hard) get lightweight and just bloody ride it...
2012 XT 2x10 is fantastic...
The below weights are for Trigger shifters, RD, FD, Cranks, 11/32 cassette and chain.
2010 Deore 9x3 2410g
2010 XT 3x9 2092g so 318g diff on 2010 range
In 2011 they weighed the groupo as Trig shifters, RD, FD, Cranks, BB, Disc brakes, Cassette and chain.
2011 XT 3x10 2812g
2011 XTR 2x10 2434g (in race spec rather than trail spec) so 278g diff.
For 2012 weights dont include Bottom Bracket (BB)
2012 XT 2x10 2490g (2545g for the 3x10)
2012 XTR 2x10 2434g (race spec - interestingly enough it appears the same as 2011?? - Im pretty sure it would be around 50g lighter)
For comparision sake 2012 Sram XX comes in at 2287g
A good point to make is that the 2012 XT is almost as good as the 2011 XTR - but FAR more affordable.
The above info has come from various buyers magazines from the last 4 years.
I hope it helps. FWIW - 2012 XT will be awesome and at a very good price point.
Cheers.
Poo a massive log and train reallly, really hard.
loose a few grams here and there on your bike but really,
TRAIN HARDER!
it's worth much more than a few grams on a groupset!
I find I generally lose a kilo of water over the course of a ride, would be even more without the camelback.
Thanks heaps to the guys that gave me info ,much appreciated ! To the guys that said just do a big shit im trying to work out which of three things apply-either your just havn a laugh ,uve never ridn a light bike or uve just got no idea .Sure u can lose weight yourself but you can stil make the bike lighter as well ,& a lighter bike is so much nicer to ride its not funny . The bike is my partners who only weighs 43kg so she hasnt much weight t lose & riding a bike 12-13kg would b like your average bloke riding somthing in the 20kg range (good luck ) so if we can lose acouple of kgs its guna help her heaps .
I am having a cheeky go yes....
Bike weight beyond a certain point is a bit over played. Being 43 kgs does make it somewhat more important granted (now knowing this)
All in all though biomechanics is the number 1 thing people should be looking at at usually spend the least on. Wheel weight is more important than all the rest in the middle as we all already know. Rolling resistance of tyres is another often overlooked performance gainer. What tyres, their pressures for where is so much more important to me than if my bikes overall weight is 500gms lighter...
And to say I have ridden a few light bikes in my time would be an understatement
I have ridden plenty of bikes in my time that pushed the weight barrier too low and lost efficiency as things became too flexy and in a word shit. (this is weight dependent obviously)
Do see where your coming from trying to get the bikes weight down for the misses though now. If it were you I'd still say just tear one out!
New wheelset was the first thing we changed & managed t drop the weight 600gs for $500 , we've managed 3x9 xt & 2012 xt brakes for $700 (already had xt derailers) which should finish it off nicely .Other than that we'll train hard & stay regular :~)
could have done the xt groupset from probikeshop http://www.probikeshop.com/mtb/drivetrain-groups... about $625A then sold your old xt derailleurs.
BTW, they list the shimano claimed weights
I converted 501 pounds to $755 oz for xt groupset but wow that,s cheap ! Bugger prob gone that option if I new .
I think you'll find the 501 is euros so that's $625 AUD.
indeed it is Brian and with the dollar sitting so high against the euro now it's a good time to be shopping.
I clicked the link and found myself looking at a new group set for the roadie
nice brian, i just clicked the link and found myself ordering a set of xt wheels for under $340 delivered using the ups saver (the expensive option)
don't forget the dollar for gram rule! Or in other words if you're spending 700$ you should get 700g of weight savings out of it.
Has been a good guide for me over the years and I have my hardtail down to just under 9kg by now. And boy does it make a difference...
so your saying i should get 340grams of weight saving, not a problem considering the standard Giant S-XC2 Sport, rims and tyres they are replacing, plus i already have 2 continental race king ust tyres i scored from an online order stuff up that cost me $30 each, they were supposed to be the wire bead mountain kings
The dollar rule is non-linear. More like a squared function. It might cost you a dollar a gram to lose the first kilo, then it'll cost you two dollars a gram to lose the next kilo, then four dollars a gram to lose the next kilo, and so on.
Man that is so cheap ! just stopped my order with cra & guna order the full xt group ,awsome ! thanks for the link !
Now my wife hates you... : )
Yeah but I didn't post the link

Quite correct, I'll get kitty to co sign the divorce papers... ; )
No need for thanks, I work on a commission basis. 10% of your saving, paid in cash or bonds and you still get a great deal
They were ridiculously cheap for DT Swiss forks for a while as well but the range they stock seems to be dwindling. One thing to remember is that they claim live inventory so if they don't have it in stock it won't appear on their website. If you don't see what you are looking for now, check back again in a few days.
