Garmin Edge 800 on eBay
Looking on buying a Garmin Edge 800 since a while, I came today across on eBay a very cheap one: $235 with the topo map! Yeah I know, crazy… dodgy… but never know, so I bought it and we'll see how it goes. What do you think??

Buy from someone who has actually sold and received feedback on Fleabay. Not 'loongab (0)'
Yeah I know… so I haven't paid yet and will use paypal, so I guess I should be sort of safe?
If you pay with Paypal you will be fine.
If the item doesnt show up or is different than discribed in the add paypal should refund your money.
Thoroughly!
I have made successful claims in the past. But it isn't straightforward to get your money back and it takes quite some time too and you need to put a claim in within a certain number of days from transaction.
To be honest If I were you I'd save yourself the potential hassle and buy from a more reputable supplier with guarantee.
+1 to double checking Paypal's policies.
I'm not sure how Paypal's refund system works but I can remember a case ages back on Rotorburn where it turned out to be a lot more difficult because the seller cleaned out their Paypal account and then split.
If a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is. Pass it up.
Pass it up.
Yep, I'd agree and say don't bother.
Price is too good to be true and from a seller with 0 feedback as well as no other items for sale.
I would imagine that as a scammer they would know how to make sure they keep the money.
If everyone just got their money back everytime it was a scam then there wouldn't be a reason for the scammers to exist...
You say you never know but I can guarantee that in this situation you do know!
General advice for eBay / paypal from experience.
You have 45 days to lodge a complaint but you have to go through the resolution process first which can take two weeks. I would say after 14 days, contact seller and politely ask them to investigate where it is. If it not located after a couple of days, open a dispute with Paypal. That in itself is not easy and it's buried away on their pages somewhere. If it turns up in time great you can close the case, but get it lodged sooner rather than later.
Note that you have to actually buy the item through eBay to be fully covered.
A while I ago, I bought something on a legit company website and paid with Paypal. Goods never showed from the US after waiting about 30 days. I went away on hols for 2 weeks and when I got back decided to open a case. Paypal said it was over 45 days (it was 46) and there was nothing they could do as their records don't go back that far. I said that was BS and then they said that because my Paypal account was linked to my bank not credit card, I had to get my bank to refund the money.
Cue an infinite loop of the bank saying Paypal took the money and therefore the bank doesn't know where it goes, and Paypal saying the bank sent the money and they merely directed it. After a lot of pain I eventually got it fixed, but it was a pain.
I'd say 99% of the time, Paypal is great, but when you get a fraud (and if you shop online a lot as I do you will eventually get one) it is a pain so be aware of the policies for sure.
I think you just paid $235 in tuition fees - who not to trust on fleaBay.
I tried to get money refunded for some counterfeit SD cards and it took weeks and they still didn't give me the refund. Even got ACCC involved but they said they couldn't do anything because paypal are a bank as far as they are concerned and I didn't buy anything from them. They suggested going to some finance ombudsmen so in the end I decided my time was worth more than the forty bucks I was trying to get back.
The tuition was good and I got full refund.
I bought another one the last day, from a (hopefully) trusted user now… but $530!
Again, temptation got into me. But it includes Aus/NZ topo map. Did I do wrong?
