Knees protection

Thinking maybe it's time to protect those (becoming old) knees.
From what I see around, seems that Six Six One brand is quite popular.

What's the difference between these?

I only do XC, no DH.

What do you have guys? Do you reckon it's necessary?

The veggie wrap is a liter weight/thinner pad. Bit nicer to pedal in but not s much padding

The Veggie Knee has more padding so is heavier and hotter

I use the Veggie Knee evo d3o for DH. It uses a soft pad that goes hard under impact (Remember Ye olde style non newtonian fluid corn starch experiment in science class?)

Pin stripe are another good popular brand http://orangebikes.com.au/pinstripe/about/

G-Form is new to Oz and well worth a look.

These are a light weight, highly flexible armour that uses a rate dependent foam rubber, similar to the d3o but much more flexible, lighter and heat shedding. We target trail riders with these and have had testers in places like Perth riding with them in mid summer to see how they go in the heat.

Firstly the material. x-poron is a rate dependent flexible material which basically firms on impact both slowing the impact and spreading the energy over a bigger surface area. see the bowling ball test here

What G-form do is then mold the foam into their proprietary pad shape. The pad ridges are there to increase flexibility and allows close to full knee and elbow articulation, exactly what you need on your bike.

Finally, they couple it all with a compressive Lycra base layer that both compresses, but more importantly wicks moisture. This wicking effect provides a cooling effect as the rider uhmmmm rides. Unlike neoprene based armour which is an insulator and retains heat, even worse when wet, the lycra breaths and uses the moisture to cool you down exactly like skinz or other compression garments. Further the lycra is very soft and machine washable so if it does bunch behind your knee it doesn't cause any severe chaffing.

Comes in a knee, shin, elbow pad, as well as crash shorts (thigh, hip, sit bone padding) and a compression shirt (shoulder, ribs and sternum pads).

I work at the distro Pushie Enterprises and can be found here

Cheers thanks for the comment.
Lots of selling argument here Nerf, but personally for me other average user reviews is what will conduct my choice too.
