I was lucky to get to the camp site mid afternoon Friday to secure our usual camp spot and be able to chill out enjoying the blue sky while catching up with friends.
Saturday morning came around fast, was planning on a warm up ride but ran out of time as there were riders in the chute already, lined up around four rows back from the front. The start gun goes off the pace wasn't fast as other years so I just sucked wheel till the first hill made I to the top recovered tiny bit then started racing. All was going well till I took a wrong line around a big mud puddle and fell in with my bike covering my drive chain with mud and gunk a bit of chain suck followed fortunately I had packed enough lube for two applications which I used replacing what was washed off
Things were going good enjoying the race until Womarah Range that climb really wears me down so I was suffering till Jacks Track which along with Shepard's Gully are my favorite sections. Was very glad to cross the finish line was aiming for 4:30:00 ended up nearly 9minutes slower maybe next year!

Great race Steve - you certainly set the benchmark for us 'younger' guys.

You have just made my target time next year one minute faster !

I know how really old you are compared to me( Eye-wink )
But next year, let's put a bet on for who beats each other. Nothing like a cash incentive to get the training underway.
Even when I beat you, I still want you to beat Garry James!

Hope you had no major stacks as you have a tendency to do.
You're definitely getting better with age. When I grow up, I want to be just like you Smiling

Good ride Steve, Pitty about Gary getting past you near the end. On the first hill he was on the left and started to have a chain problem so moved straight to the right where I was and stopped right in front of me. Didn't bother to apologise for making me stop. Not good form.
