I was looking forward to this race. I did the 100k last year for the first time, so I knew the course.
Arrived at the event on Friday night 10 minutes before the rego closed, bumped into Dave from the Mont, before heading to the car for a sleep (or tried to sleep).

It looked like it was going to be a corker of a day. Got to the start line 20 minutes early, as I did want to be in the 3rd pack. End up been at the back of the 1st pack (thanks to the guys who moved the tape back). Got in to a nice pack for the road section which worked well together and I was trying to hold back a bit (save the leg for the last climb). Pushed over the hill and felt good, but was getting passed by the 2nd wave.
Almost came off on one of the down section as I moved across to get a good line to find a guy on my left hip, who didn’t let me know he was there. Then I started to question why I choose the 100 over the 50, but that all change after the first feed station as I really love the section up the 70k mark. In parts I felt like I was on a pogo stick (need to tune suspension better)

Got to the canoe bridge and the line-up was ¾ the length of the paddock. I wanted to ride the bridge, but I also wanted to crack 6 hour. Start heading to the water crossing only to find out that it was up to your chin, been 5 foot 6 and with no snorkel time to wait, as the time keep on rolling on. As there was no option a lot more people did the bridge and about 1 in 2 rides were falling in.

A guy cut his head open when he hit a canoe and another guy fell in and looked like he was mucking around, but then we realised he could swim (very scary, maybe something for the organise to consider when you can’t walk across), luck one of the guys who just fell in saw it (with the help of everyone yelling) and throw him on the bridge, he was shaken up. After they fished everyone out and they had walked across the bridge it was my turn. No pressure as the line was massive by this time and I was the first to go. I got over the bridge, but fell off in the sand on the other side.

I felt great on the hill keeping a good pace and over taking a lot of ride (A bit of a surprise as I am not the best climber). Got to the road section with another guys and we were both cramping, he would pull me on the flats and I would pull him up the hill. We work well to the finish.

Didn’t get under 6 hours due the delays at the canoe bridge, but it was great event. I’ll be back next year to crack 6 hours.

Shame not to crack the 6 hours but you know you can so I am sure you'll be back next year to to give it a good work out and I'll make sure I join you. Sounds like it might have been Gary's face plant (http://nobmob.com/node/35684) that you saw although I am sure that more than one person cleaned themselves up there!

Well done Chris, sounds like you had a great ride apart from the bridge delays. With the experience you should only get quicker again next year
