First 100km ever, was very nervous before the start, especially as I had been without the bike for 8 weeks leading upto the race (long story short an issue with my Scott dealer meant me rear shock service took 7 weeks longer than expected!!). I rode with a mate (you probably all saw him - the only guy with white tyres on the 100km course!!), and had a blast.

We started at the back of wave 2 - and quickly found our road riding came in useful working our way through the pack until we reached the big hill. After conquering about 25% of the hill we walked the rest mindful of the legs!

I stopped at the 50km mark to change the brake pads - I had spares with me, and the front brake had suddenly lost all pressure. The new pads 'fixed' it for about 10km, then the problem came back - needs a bleed me thinks!

The best section of the day was definately between the 50km and 70km mark - loved the downhill rocky sections, and also the technical uphill bits were amazing (all that training around the dam paid off!)

We had to wait 45 minutes at the kayak bridge - we turned up just at the wrong time! However, we both made it across on two wheels without getting wet. The long wait didn't do wonders for my legs though and as soon as we hit the big hill on the other side I started cramping. I managed to ride the whole thing, but granny gear almost all the way up.

We finished with an official time of 7:01, but the GPS showed a moving time of 6:09 due to the wait at the kayak bridge.

Stoked with our result, my right knee was a bit stiff the day after, but otherwise all good (even got onto the roadie today and cycled into the city for work!).

I did suffer some lower back pain, but it vanished as soon as I got off the bike - going to book in a bike fitting - I've been recommened Avanti at Narrabeen - I suspect a shorter stem will help.

So pleased with the weekend, that on Sunday night I signed up for the Husky 100 at the end of June - bring it on!! Smiling

Great ride for a first go.
Dont worry about being in the 'granny' the whole way up the other side. I was too. Its better to push something easy, than not push anything at all.
You wont even need the granny at Husky. Big ring the whole way. See you down there.
