• Wear: Boots, long trousers and long sleeved shirts. Council will provide gloves, but bring some if you have them.

• Tools: Bring loppers, sheers and/or Saws. Council will provide some tools, and chemicals.

Some of you may be getting tired of the Lantana but part of our commitment to Knapsack and council is rehabilitation. It will be a long and tiring day, but its best we make the most out of everyday.

As for lunch, we are hoping to have a BBQ to use. Some planning will be needed. ie BYO meat or a small cash donation.

i can bring a small bbq with plate if needed, i can also bring bread and steak for sandwiches, just bring your own drinks!

moggio's picture

BBQ would be excellent Todd... no catering vans with coucil unlike NPWS. We can chip in or use funds for food supplies. Feed the council chaps too and build the working relationship over sausages and bread.

Muninjitsu's picture

Excellent looking forward to it.

Chuck's picture

Todd, I have booked the BBQ from the soccer club, so you focus on the food and utensils.

Nerf Herder's picture

talk to Kingy for the snags ... I originally used different wording ... but it was just wrong

BM Epic's picture

No worries Mike, will get sauso's and steak sangers, this is diggin food!

Connor.Mc's picture

Hi,
My name is Connor and I live just down the road from Knapsack. I am currently doing a geography project for school about the bike trails in the Blue mountains eastern escarpment. I have seen this event and I was wondering if some people would be willing to help me out by providing information on the topic. I would also be willing to help out for a while if I am available for the day as I enjoy riding the tracks myself.

If you have any information on the tracks or know someone who would, I would greatly appreciate it if you were able to help me with my research.

My email is:
[email protected]

Thanks.

ChopStiR's picture

Is the whole class doing a project on bike trails in the Blue mountains eastern escarpment or is this your personal choice?

Can I suggest you start a new thread in the Blue Mountains Forum and write up a few questions your looking for information on.

Connor.Mc's picture

thanks,
its my personal choice, we had to choose an issue in our local area. so i chose this as it interests me.

i will do that
thanks for the suggestion.

Chuck's picture

Hey Connor,

You were meant to call me about Knapsack. Smiling Tim and I can help you out.

Michael

hathill's picture

This would have to be the worst Saturday for me. I'll try to get there in the afternoon so save some Lantana for me!

Muninjitsu's picture

Where is the lantana at knapsack?

ChopStiR's picture

Behind the soccer fields on the south east corner. It's also the area were we have aproval for new trail as part of future works. We need to try and clear all the Lantana from this area first.

Muninjitsu's picture

Got it thanks Tim.

deadparrot's picture

looking forward to the 16th June, but I am afraid I will not be able to do much physical labour, recovery is slower than I'd hoped. But I will be there, even just for comedy value Smiling

ChopStiR's picture

Bring a shovel to lean on Laughing out loud Perfect worker

Gilbo's picture

Hey. I'm keen to lend a hand but cant get down until around 3pm. Will get in touch and see where you guys are at that time.

G.

Ian_A's picture

Committed around lunchtime but I should be good for a couple of hrs in the morning.

moggio's picture

Weather will need to be watched but council is still definately booking it in to go ahead.

ChopStiR's picture

Regarding the meeting location, the soccer fields will be in use so I believe the best spot for everyone to park and meet would be at the Barnett St North Gate (lovers walk). Mark, can you confirm with Council Staff.

The current forecast at the moment is for a shower or two. I don't think this will be significant although you may need to be prepared to get your clothes dirty. I'll bring a small Gazebo we can set up.

How are we going for lunch plans?
I believe Micheal will be borrowing the soccer club BBQ. Todd is organising Meat and Bread(what donation $ should we bring?). Byo drinks. Thoughts for Sauces, cooking utensils, napkins, foil trey, etc?

Would be good if we could get one or two Petrol Whipper Snippers along to cut back the grass along the track in the area we are working on. Can anyone help with this?

Dutchy74's picture

I can bring a whipper snipper for the grass. It's not a heavy duty one but should still be ok.
Can't bring the lawn mower as it won't fit in my car.

I can buy some sauce bottles (Tomato and BBQ?).

Ian_A's picture

I've got a heavy duty whipper snipper I can bring.

Nerf Herder's picture

Can we confirm if this is a rain or shine gig ... I reckon we should hit it in the rain

Dutchy74's picture

I'd prefer dry weather / light drizzle as I don't have any wet weather work gear. As to whether or not it is postponed, well that's up to a group decision, probably on the day.

Username2's picture

Yeah i Can Bring a Wippersnipper if necessary and a mower too if need be.

Will we need much in the way of digging implements etc?

lyn's picture

hi ,can be there for morning only, so far.

moggio's picture

Will see what the weather forecast is later in the week... so will probably call it on Friday in a discussion with council staff.

At this stage if it is showers then we would go ahead, but if it is actual rain then probably not.

ChopStiR's picture

18 names down so far. This is fantastic. I really do hope the weather is fine. With this many we will smash through the Lantana.

Won't need mowers. There is only a short section of Grass. If you're bringing a whipper snipper please try and give it a good brush down at home to remove as much dirt and grass as possible.

On site all tools will need to be sprayed with 70% Metho 30% Water solution. Council will supply this.

As for digging tools, bring them. But we will most likely not need them until later in the day.

BM Epic's picture

My work has just sprung a saturday shift on me, i will get meat and bread and drop it to Ians place on friday night, bloody monkeys that i work for...sheeesh!

Kingy's picture

G'day mate, let me know what your costs were mate and I will liase with Al to get you a refund from our war chest Smiling

CJonaBttlrckt's picture

If I can get there it we be after lunch, netball. Where is the creek being armoured?

ChopStiR's picture

I believe the creek crossing to be worked on is next to the soccer fields close to where we are doing the Lantana work.

Council will be bringing enough tools for 25 people. If you don't have your own or would rather not bring your own this is fine.

I should have mentioned it earlier. If you are bringing your own digging tools it is important to brush off as much dirt as possible at home before you come. The cleaner the better.

Nerf Herder's picture

How much Lantana is there ?? surely the lantana munching pros can eat through whats there pretty quick Smiling

can we break up into 2 groups, one do lantana ... one do the creek crossing and then maybe some minor trail work to open up the top of the DH track Smiling after lunch

BM Epic's picture

That sounds like a great plan Al.
Also Kingy, i will drop the meat and bread with Ian, it wont cost that much, was thinking about 30 sausages with 3 loaves of bread, what do you guys think??

ChopStiR's picture

LoL, Wishful thinking Al.

Hmmm, maybe 40 snags.
Assuming everyone turns up thats 18 Vollies listed + 2 Council staff.

40snags would make it 2 each.

Ian_A's picture

A few of us will skip out before lunch I think, so 30 should cut it no probs.
Better give the trimmer a clean.

stephen's picture

I've dropped off 2 cases of Solo cans with Chuck to go along with the snags.

moggio's picture

I'll talk to council today.... what's everyones opinion on working in rain? Probably be around 15° and wet....

ChopStiR's picture

My weather app is telling me cloudy with area's of rain at times in the late morning. Let's hope Knapsack is not one of those areas. I don't mind short periods of light rain. If it gets heavy for a period I'll have the small Gazebo up we can all try and huddle under.

Dutchy74's picture

I'll still be there. Unless, of course, it rains too hard but I don't mind getting wet for a good cause.

Nerf Herder's picture

Soz ... will be very late as I've been asked to go on a council walk for a potential formalised DH trail ... and I didn't even have to manipulate council or nutting Sticking out tongue ... unlike that evil Alan David guy.

Apologies guys

Chuck's picture

I'll be there no matter the weather.

Username2's picture

So the missus has sprung a family BBQ on me and its one of those "You've known about for aaages!!" BBQ's... Anyway i'll be there from 8-11 it looks like.

Ian_A's picture

I'm about the same time-wise. Todd is dropping the snags off with me and I'll shift them into someone elses car at the start so I can nick off around 11.
I gave the trimmer a good scrub with soap and water but it still looks dirty.

moggio's picture

Council are happy to go ahead so really WTF.. we may get a little wet, but we be tough!

Meet at carparks at Lovers Walk 8am. If anyone gets lost call me on 0419164528.

ChopStiR's picture

I may be running a little late, I have to drop my Brother and his wife off at the airport at 7am so it will be tight getting back for the 8am start.

Last minute advise for the attending. Bring your own water and snap lock bags to protect your phone and/or electronic car key/emobilser.

Dutchy74's picture

I've got an all day pass, so I'll be around for as long as needed.

Muninjitsu's picture

I may not be able to come, I am having arm circulation problems from the 3 tonne of soil I shoveled yesterday.

BM Epic's picture

Dropped weiners and bread off to Eazy Ian, have great fun while i try and stick it to the man!

deadparrot's picture

Will be there tomorrow, but first need to go to the doctors, so will be there as early as I can, but likely will be around 10am.
