Cascades.

Meet at the Douglas Street St Ives (Park Entry)at 0830 hours. From there I will be riding the Cambourne trail, Cascades loop then that other trail to the substation and back to Douglas street. I am of medium fitness and love the downhill.

.... although this doesn't start 'til 1:30. I'm keen on a couple laps of the Dam as per Craig's post as this won't take as long.

I was told not to injure myself by the bride mind Eye-wink

Any good for a MTB newbie - with ok fitness?

Interested as long as it is ok for newbie's ability

Cheers

Hi Tien, Cascades is great for a newbie - it is 99% firetrail with a couple of creek crossings and only a couple of bits where you may have to get off. Watch the creek as there are some hidden cracks and the moss makes it really slippery. Also some sections of the firetrail are rutted - stay away from the ruts!

Cascades is great fitness training - it's a great workout on the hills at each end. Also plenty of bailout options if the ride is getting too long.

You did a 50k ride with us a few weeks ago Smiling didn't seem to be suffering too hard!!!

Sorry guys and gals. Despite posting the first note re a ride Tuesday, after my meet and greet with the Morgan Rd gravel I can barely lift my arm so won't be out until the weekend.

Happy trails and remember don't jump if your going to land on gravel.

I'll see if i can make this....it's a bit of an early start for me, but hey, i'll try. The Douglas Street entry, is that the one that starts off as single trail, or is it the one that starts off very straight, and going straight down?

Count me in tomorrow - hope no one calls me tomorrow (on call at work)

Cheers

BTW, thanks Justin

If it was called off it would have been nice to have posted it here. If that was you I saw that was very slack of you; where did you go to?

Prolly me they were talking about. Was it two guys just after the entry you spoke to?

I think I saw the group; they raced off down a hidden track next to Akron Oval (not even on Douglas St). I raced down to about lower camborne track, but didn't see anyone, so i came back up, saw those two, had a small talk, then rode home. Hope Saturday goes better.

Mitch, I wasn't riding today but the times posted are usually start times not meet times, ie get there early enough to be on your bike by the time posted. Don't know if this was the problem or if it was the weather, looked a little threatening early.

Next week should be good, see you there

Yeh, I saw that you weren't riding. But that being said, I checked the time when I got there (track entrance on Douglas St); it was something like 8:20am. I got no idea what happened :S.

Hi all,

My experience - pick up the phone and call whoever organised the ride. A lot of folks post messages here and will expect a call if anyone is going to join them. If I don't get a call, I'll go when I get there, why would I wait around in the cold when there is mountain biking to do? Even if I saw a post saying you were going to come along, well my experience has been that only 1 out of four people who post will actually be there on the day. You'll notice in a lot of my mail-outs I explicitly ask people to call if they are joining in.

Never mind! there is more MTBing to do

See you there on saturday

All,

I think that given we are an open forum the person who steps up and commits to planing a ride should at least wait five or ten mins past the posted time before departing. True it would be nice to know who's turning up but that’s the way it is.

Take this morning for example at Manly Dam; Craig called the ride with his friend from the USA, which I only read Robin replying. I turned up with Peter and Dave also ready to go. We departed at about 8:45 no big deal.

If a person posts a ride and intends on turning up regardless, wait and see if anybody else will turn up to join you, odds on they will!

Just a thought

Hello!
While you are discussing ride times etc. Please could we have the ride time and meeting place for the Terrey Hills Ride? I have looked but can't seem to find it...
Thank you!

Thanks Justin,

Anzac Day was a little threatning weather wise, I left at 0830 hours from the Douglas Street(ride finish point). This is the fire trail section near the oval. I left by road to the single trail section (behind homes)the ride start point. There was only one vehicle at Douglas Street and nobody else arrived while I was gearing up. I presumed that I was going alone as nobody had confirmed or called my mobile which was posted.

I apoligise for perhaps not waiting longer or expressing the ride start or finish points clearer. I hope those that did ride had a good ride.

Paul.
